It’s time to bring the sneaker event back to NYC, and this past weekend, some of the most notable names in the sneaker game came together to put forth one of the most unique ones we’ve seen yet – the Frsher Than Your Avrge Sneaker Battle. A large crowd gathered to buy, sell, and trade, but all came for the main event, which pitted sneakerhead y sneakerhead in a test of sneaker knowledge, maintenance, and general presentation. The chosen winner was Slova Don, a recognizable name here on Sneaker News thanks to his inspired Bespoke creations of the past. What makes a true sneakerhead? Some of our more hardcore enthusiasts are undoubtedly better versed in sneaker history, maintenance, and overall presentation, and this Saturday, May 12th, you get to show off your depth in the sneaker game by attending the FRSHR Than Your AVRGE event, hosted by Premium Pete and Dallas Penn. Along with the event being a buy/sell/trade hoedown, a Sneaker Battle will be held, testing ones knowledge and acumen in three primary categories: Condition, Knowledge, and Rocking one;s kicks. “We want you to rep your sneaker school.”
School has been in full swing for over two months, but Rep Your Sneaker Hood is challenging you to represent your school (college, high-school, elementary, even one in your neighborhood). Your task? Create a video showing off the best and brightest sneakers of your school. Who will win? The video with the most videos and the best story-telling ability, so the victor will be partially judged by the public. There are a few rules that apply to this contest (you need a SneakerTube.tv account, the video can’t be over two minutes). “Basically, I live the Complex lifestyle.”
That’s how Dallas Penn describes his love of fashion, sneakers and other collectible items, and now the man behind Internets Celebrities and various other web-based projects has earned his shot at voicing his top 25 kicks of all time via Mark Ecko’s web mag. Penn’s list, while not full of obscure picks designed to pander to the sneakerhead elite, certainly has a bit more variety than the average Air Jordan and Air Max-dominated list we’ve come to expect from these guest spots, and in fact, the only two Jays on the list would have to rank among the unlikeliest of choices.
