Very rarely do we get a treat of this magnitude. The Air Jordan 1 and Dave White, collaborating on a limited edition Air Jordan sneaker, pulling out all the stops with the sick shoebox and all the Jordan-centric detailing done in Dave White fashion. The 23 pairs he did for the WINGS For The Future back in February was amazing in itself, but these right here? These will actually release and become attainable to the sneakerhead who has heralded the original Air Jordan and Dave White’s signature sneaker artwork for years. The Air Jordan 1 DW has no shortage of detailing, like the special labels behind the tongue, the elephant print, the Jordan WINGS logo (that famous poster that most you probably have hanging up on your dorm-room wall), and so on. When Dave White took on the Air Jordan 1 for a special charity auction edition of the shoe this past February, only 23 pairs were up for grabs, leaving many would-be bidders out of luck. Now that Dave has teamed up with Jordan Brand for a second Air Jordan 1 go-around, it’s looking like these might be a bit more attainable, although we are still awaiting official release info before we can get too excited. The good news is that at least for now, we get an incredible extensive look at all of the finer details of the shoe, along with its packaging and hang tag. Opinions still seem to be mixed on the shoe, but that won’t stop these from disappearing with the quickness when they’re made available. Some sneakerheads view sneakers as a mode of personal expression. Just as one could tattoo his/her body with permanent ink, another can rock a pair of sneakers and communicate words with through footwear. Sneakers like the Air Jordan XI, adidas Superstar, and Reebok Pump do more than provide cushioning – they assist in creating a sense of style and attitude that few other pieces of apparel can. Dave White, who rose to prominence in the sneaker sub-culture with his signature style of painting, was selected to re-imagine the Air Jordan 1 for the Jordan Brand WINGS For The Future program, and through the finished product we could interpret the message of his design clearly. It was one of history, inner and outer beauty, and iconoclastic agendas – a message that Jordan Brand itself carried through its 25+ years of existence.
This September, fans of the Air Jordan 1 and Dave White‘s brush strokes will be fortunate enough to experience a second Air Jordan 1 designed by the world-renown artist. This time around, he focuses more on Jordan Brand themes, like the classic Black/Red/White Chicago Bulls banner and elephant print, making for shoe all the more relatable to the Air Jordan loyalist. While the release information for this Air Jordan 1 hasn’t been confirmed, these will in fact release to the public (and not limited to 23 pairs via auction). Earlier this year, renowned artist Dave White collaborated with Jordan Brand to create a limited edition Air Jordan 1, plastered in all-American visuals and detailing in White’s signature styling. Created for the Jordan Brand WINGS For The Future program, the Dave White x Air Jordan 1 was the perfect embodiment of the American dream, exuding notes of patriotism, hope, and the revolutionary spirit that is the driving force of both American culture and the Air Jordan legacy. This Fall 2011 season, Dave White teams up with Jordan Brand once again; this time around, White focuses on the heritage of the Air Jordan Legacy, combining iconic detailing like elephant print and the classic red/black/white colorway with his signature brush strokes. These also feature a ‘WINGS For The Future’ label on the shoe laces and insoles, which may or may not signify another auction-style release, but let’s hope this time a limited release to the public occurs as well. Showcased at the Jordan Brand Takeover at Footaction in Culver City was the Dave White x Air Jordan 1 for the Jordan Brand WINGS for the Future program. Combining history with artistry, the Air Jordan 1 conceptualized in the eyes of world-renown artist and sneakerhead Dave White resulted in a patriotic rendition of the spark plug that ignited the high-powered Jordan Brand engine. Featuring a red brush strokes on the heel, a dipped-in-gold toe with Dave White’s signature paint splatters, gold speckling on the laces and red on the canvas tongue label, the Dave White x Air Jordan 1 exists in a limited quantity of twenty-three pairs and are available for auction – all proceeds going to the WINGS for the Future effort. Jordan Brand launched its “WINGS for the Future” program with the goal of motivation and inspiration of today’s youth using education, sport, and creativity – with Inglewood High School as its first partnering school. As part of the WINGS program, Jordan Brand employees will conduct weekly workshops and participate in activities involving graphic designs, essay writing, and career planning while providing a complete refurbishment of the school basketball court and classrooms. To commemorate this honorable partnership, Jordan Brand has collaborated with well-known artist and sneakerhead Dave White of the UK, who is best recognized for his amazing canvas paintings of classic sneakers. This time around, he gets to work with the original Air Jordan shoe that is the foundation of Jordan Brand – the Air Jordan 1.
The Dave White x Air Jordan 1 Retro features White’s sublime graphic touch on the upper, using red brush strokes and copious floods of metallic gold in White’s personal style of layers and splatters. Premium canvas, call-out to White’s ‘canvas’ of choice’ can be found on the tongue tag, with a pristine lasered inner lining. Environmentally Preferred Mesh is also utilized on interior walls of the shoe. White furthers his reach beyond the shoe with a special Air Jordan ‘Wings’ logo on the box painted in his trademark motif as well. The Air Jordan 1 is a perfect way to launch the Jordan Brand WINGS for the Future, and no other than Dave White can exemplify the creativity and artistic talent that the WINGS for the Future program aims to promote.
