The subject of sneakers has marched back into the mouths of the mainstream media this week, with quite a few outlets commenting on that $315 price tag that’s being slapped on to the Nike+ version of the Nike LeBron 10. So all of a sudden the typical topics that you see on sites like ours is getting lip service from less sneaker focused but still sports-centric publications – the widely subscribed Sports Illustrated being one of them. Sticking with the theme of the athlete/sneaker relationship they’ve dug up an impressive gallery of guys and gals from various sports caught with their footwear, some shots featuring signature silhouettes and some featuring models that were merely played in from time to time. Japanese sneakerheads in particular and fashion-forward folks in general jumped on the Footscape bandwagon around the turn of the century, that offset-laced instant classic still producing new variations to satisfy the demand to this day.  But they weren’t the first Swooshed sneakers with asymmetrically aligned shoelaces, nor will they be the last to have a Nike Sportswear remix, as Dennis Rodman’s signatures from the Chicago Bulls’ legendary 72-win ’95-96 campaign.  The Nike Air Max Shake Evolve reprises Rodman’s Ndestrukt with an upgraded 180-degree Max Air unit and a Chicago-style ballistic nylon quilt that might have you thinking of the other end of the Bulls’ second threepeat.  Check them out up close below, then grab yours from an NSW store like Wish or on eBay.

His recently resurrected Ndestrukt silhouette is the one we remember Dennis Rodman wearing en route to that first Chicago Bulls championship, but we can’t forget about its predecessor and the model that was perhaps The Worm’s most aptly titled signature release.  The Air Darwin’s rugged backwards-Swoosh build synchronized perfectly with Rodman’s mid-’90s descent into the Mike Tyson zone, and with the aforementioned 1995-96s getting the call off the bench with fresh legs, now’s the perfect time to do the same with the last shoe Rodman rocked in San Antonio.  The Nike Air Max Darwin 360 brings that same ‘Neon’ Air Max 95 flare we just saw on the Air Max Shake Evolve and will arrive at select Nike Sportswear dealers like Mr R. in Miami starting March 31st.  Photos: ITSB

There truly will never be another Dennis Rodman. While it’s difficult to look past his outlandish attitude, garish appearance, and controversial statements and stunts, Dennis Rodman was one of the greatest rebounders and defenders in the history of the game and served as a valuable tool for not one, not two, but five NBA Championship teams. In addition to being a top-notch rebounder, Rodman wasn’t bad on the offensive end either, averaging double-figures in his earlier days as a member of the Detroit Pistons, but as the years went by, he focused more on rebounding, defense, and dying his hair in a rainbow of colors. A seemingly unstable being, Rodman was traded to the Chicago Bulls, joining a Championship-ready team, and although the hair-dying continued, so did the elite level of defense and rebounding. Consider Dennis Rodman as an elite role player; he wasn’t exactly needed for scoring, but where he was needed, his performance was unparalleled.

Numerous championships, rebounding titles, All-NBA Defensive Teams is what truly makes up this man, which is why he will officially be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame tonight, alongside other basketball greats like Chris Mullin, Tex Winter, and Arvydas Sabonis. In honor of Rodman’s latest career achievement, Dennis Rodman, a former Nike athlete, was presented with this Nike Air Force 1; ironically, it lacks any color, but is adorned with a number of significant details from Rodman’s career.
