derrick rose adidas contract Derrick Rose Signs Second Largest Sneaker Contract In History

All eyes and ears have been glued to the barrage of news surrounding this week’s All-Star sneaker releases put forth by Nike, but news of a jaw-dropping, monster sneaker contract drew attention to adidas, a brand that struggles to have a firm presence in the U.S. basketball market. Of course, the basketball market in the States is just one piece of the big athletic-outfitting puzzle, and while it’s no mystery that Nike absolutely dominates the U.S. basketball bracket (over 95%, as of mid-2010), adidas confidently competes with Nike on the worldwide scale, with some reports stating that the adidas Derrick Rose line outsells Nike LeBron and goes toe to toe with Nike Kobe out in China, a region that has a major influence in the overall picture. The figures of this lucrative endorsement contract, finalized over this weekend, reads roughly fourteen years and $250 million, which is likely the duration of Rose’s professional career; it also establishes Rose as the highest paid active basketball athlete endorsee. Who comes in first of all-time? Michael Jordan, of course, who cashes in quite a few sheckles every year thanks to the astonishing sales numbers of Air Jordan Retros (Air Jordans outsell Kobe, LeBron, KD, Chuck Taylor, and Rose combined).

Truthfully, there is no better athlete that deserves such a generous deal than Derrick Rose, who has created a legend for himself in just three and a half seasons in the NBA. The timing of this contract also comes at a pivotal point of the signature sneaker line; typically the third or fourth installment of a signature line takes the entire estate to a new level – think Air Jordan III, Nike Zoom Kobe IV, Air Foamposite One, Zoom KD IV – and with the adiRose already making significant jumps from 1.0 to 2.0 (and the halfsies in between), some heady expectations have been set for the adiZero Rose 3.0. The sheer numbers of the contract also bring up some interesting thoughts; do sneaker companies have any sort of influence on where a superstar chooses to play? While Rose has already signed a contract extension with the Bulls, one has to think that the smaller market team may be at a disadvantage in luring free agent stars when considering the major dollars that sneaker companies are ready to throw around. Now that D-Rose being triple-striped for life is in the books, what are your thoughts on this gargantuan contract? Do you foresee a competitor like Nike or Jordan Brand breaking the $250 million mark? What other rising star deserves his own signature line? Let us know your thoughts on Rose’s contract and the potential aftermath in the comments section below.

adidas adizero rose 3.0 1 adidas adiZero Rose 3.0

The sneaky shots of the adidas adiZero Rose 3.0 continue, with another teaser popping up that gives a considerably more thorough idea of what to expect from this upcoming silhouette from adidas Basketball. Fittingly showing its face in a ‘bred’ combo, the initial look displays a redone Derrick Rose logo that makes better use of his floral familial name. Also notable is the absence of Three Stripes branding save for the vertical hit on the back end, an approach established to some degree already by the adidas adiZero 2.5. The multi-layered Sprint upper seems to be in effect as well, decorating the sneaker with smaller perforations than ever before with the red sectioning peeking out between the black. adidas adizero rose upcoming teaser 1 adidas adiZero Rose 3.0 + 2.5 + 773

Derrick’s game is rich in explosion, scoring prowess, and leadership. Derrick’s wallet, on the other hand, is just rich. After signing a five-year extension with the Chicago Bulls, reports regarding a life-time contract with adidas worth $250 million floated around during the beginning of last month. It’s an investment worth every penny because while the U.S. market is dominated by Nike Basketball and its Big Three, the adidas Rose series, according to sources, outsells the Nike LeBron and competes with the Nike Zoom Kobe in China. adidas is already poised for a strong continuation of the adidas adiZero Rose 2 with the recent unveiling of the 2.5, but here we have a nice teaser shot of the 2.5 side-by-side-by-side with the adidas adiZero 773 and the upcoming adidas adiZero 3.0. Sandwiched between the 773 (left) and the 2.5 (right) is the 3.0, which features Rose’s ’1′ jersey number on the upper heel, a redesigned three-stripes applique on the heel that reached down into the outsole, and a higher ankle cut to protect Derrick Rose’s multi-million-dollar ankles. nba feet 2 1 12 NBA Feet: Around The League 1/30 1/31

What a way to close out the month of January! Just last night, Sneaker News showed you Ray Allen’s insane Air Jordan XIII PE in Black/Green, but that wasn’t the only notable sneaker sighting from the past two days. Al Harrington of the Denver Nuggets sported a Nike LeBron 9 iD colorway of Gold/Black, while C.J. Miles of the Utah Jazz wore a great colorway of the Nike Zoom KD III iD. Chris Paul wore a Blue/Red colorway of the Jordan CP3.V, while teammate Blake Griffin wore Kendrick Perkins’ face on his feet (actually the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011). The Knicks finally got back to winning ways, with Amare Stoudemire sporting a nice PE colorway of the Nike Air Max Sweep Thru, and Derrick Rose and the Bulls bounced back from the loss with their leader wearing the adidas adiZero Rose 2.5. Next to Ray’s XIIIs, the sighting of the two nights might be Earl Clark’s Royal Foams. Check out all the NBA action from the last two days of January below, and stay with Sneaker News as we keep you in tune with all of NBA Feet for the month of February! via ESPN.

Derrick Rose is undeniably one of the most respected leaders of the game, which makes this ‘Lei Feng’ tribute all the more fitting. Lei Feng was a soldier of the People’s Liberation in China, serving as a symbol of selflessness and modesty that is still celebrated today. Derrick Rose can also be described as both selfless and modest, but he’s also a fierce competitor with his eyes on the big prize. This special colorway of the adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 is a mix of both Rose and Feng, combining the sleek design modeled after Rose’s game with the heritage colorway of the Chinese Army. Check out these new angles below and look out for these at select Asian retailers very soon. via solemovement.

adidas adizero rose 2.5 unveiled1 adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 Officially Unveiled

When Kobe Bryant credits Derrick Rose as just one of two other players in the NBA with that killer instinct, you know you’ve got a bright future in your hands. Derrick Rose has been that much-needed superstar replacement since MJ left the Bulls in ’98, and in his short span with the Red and Black, Rose has already captured the league MVP award as well as the Rookie of the Year trophy. The next step up is obviously an NBA title, and Rose’s second-half shoe, the adidas adiZero Rose 2.5, will certainly help get over the ECF hump and get onto the world’s biggest basketball stage this June. Arriving at adidas Basketball retailers this February 2nd, the adiZero Rose 2.5 (Rose’s fourth official signature shoe with adidas) features a number if unique details, like the satellite view of Derrick’s Englewood neighborhood embossed on the toe-box and the ‘Cleared For Flight’ theme on the insole.
