DERRICK ROSE Derrick Rose is an NBA player for the Chicago Bulls, a three time NBA All-Star, the 2009 Rookie of the Year and the 2011 MVP. Rose is an adidas athlete, having signed what was at the time the second largest sneaker endorsement deal in history with the brand and also providing a huge boost to the adidas Basketball lineup through the launch of the adidas adiZero Crazy Light.

There’s no doubt that the NBA All-Star Weekend is the most exciting All-Star event across all professional sports, so when the stars align every February, NBA fans are in for a real treat. The All-Star Game tradition has been East/Blue and West/Red for years, but 2012 may be the start of a new trend as we get a look at the adidas adiZero Rose Dominate, one of Derrick Rose’s signature shoes, in a tonal orange colorway that is speculated to be his 2012 All-Star Game shoe. Counterfeit sneakers from foreign lands have increasingly plagued the sneaker market in recent years, but we haven’t seen any designs directly reference this phenomenon. And you won’t find any kind of praise for piracy in this latest drop from adidas Basketball, though its story does hinge on a man who became famous for a document some scholars believe could have been an outright forgery. The adidas adiZero Rose Dominate pictured above is the real deal, this crisp army green ‘Lei Feng’ edition taking their military look from by a Chinese soldier who came to be the poster boy for the PRC’s propaganda campaigns. These go quite a bit deeper into their Far East inspiration than your average Chinese New Year release, and with China’s economy and population both continuously growing, it’s likely we’ll start to see more unique stories like these earn some time in the spotlight. Derrick Rose stuck a dagger in the depleted Lakers on Christmas Day, and while it wasn’t a victory of the same magnitude as another famous Bull’s triumph against Showtime some twenty and one-half years earlier, it did indeed prove once more that the league’s reigning MVP can come out on top against event the most elite competition. And if Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, both former MVPs, can have multiple Nike Basketball signatures running in parallel, it only seems right to give young D-Rose his due and continue expanding his Three Stripes empire. The adidas adiZero Rose 773 focuses specifically on a certain section of Chi-town Rose calls home (at least its name, anyway). The design is somewhat sleeker than the already-svelte adiZero Rose flagship line, but this white pair carries with it a comparable level of detail thanks to the multi-gauge perforations running down either side from the toe. NBA Basketball is back, and on Christmas Day, fans were treated with five highly anticpated match-ups that could possibly hold long-term influence. To start the day off, the New York Knicks took on the Boston Celtics, as Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire sported the ‘Christmas’ colorways of their signature shoes. The 2011 NBA Finals rematch caused a lot of buzz, but the Heat, led by LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, went off on a quick push and held a commanding lead for the entire game. The Lakers took on MVP Derrick Rose, who wore the adidas Rose 2.0 ‘Windy City’ against Kobe’s ‘Leopard’ Supreme System. Other games included CP3′s debut in Los Angeles and defending scoring champion Kevin Durant wearing the Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Christmas’. The introduction of his upcoming Rose 773 brings Derrick Rose’s adidas Basketball signature sneaker count to three this season, but four if you count this lowtop version as distinct from its mid-cut counterpart. The adidas adiZero Rose 2.5 Low might not get too much time on the court given that D-Rose even had to switch out of the Crazy Light last postseason in favor of something with more ankle stability, but the ankle-height cutoff version is shaping up to be a solid summer shoe in its own right. After making a big splash in the NBA finals last year on the feet of Derrick Rose, the adidas Crazy Light looks to be gearing up for the impending NBA season with a couple new colorways for December. The two looks shown here, the ‘Chicago Bulls’ and ‘Aqua’ colorway, were first made famous by another Chicago Bull repping another sneaker company, but the Crazy Light pulls it off nonetheless. In a recent interview with ESPN The Magazine, Derrick Rose revealed that after losing to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, he got a bit reclusive and didn’t leave the confines of house for a week, placing the blame entirely on himself. Of course, once he got out of that funk, Rose stepped back onto the court to work on his game, even taking pointers from Kobe Bryant. Rose stated he worked primarily on his isolation game (really, can it get any much better?), so come Christmas Day, watching the 2010-11 NBA MVP move around the court would be like watching a choreographed masterpiece of dance. This is where the ‘Luxury Hardwood’ colorway comes in; it features a faux wood-grain upper with a burnt black char colorway combined with a Red/Green detailing that reminds us of a certain high-end leather goods brand (no affiliation, of course). LeBron James’ annual signature sneaker count rose to five in the wake of his second MVP season in 2010, so wouldn’t it make complete sense for Nike Basketball’s biggest competitor to similarly expand their offerings endorsed by reigning Most Valuable Player, Derrick Rose? It certainly does, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing here with the first images of the upcomign adidas Rose 773. A model named after D-Rose’s own Chicago area code, the 773 rides the same outsole as the upcoming adiZero Rose 2.5 but sees its upper altered away from the SprintSkin look, toward a more traditional perforated leather. Does this signify a more affordable ‘takedown’ status for the Rose 773, or will this model turn out to be the Chicago Bulls point guard’s footwear of choice for next spring’s playoff run?
