Once the lighthearted, jovial superstar, Dwight Howard’s reputation took a turn for the not-so-good after the turmoil between he and his coach came to light, and with his public demands of either being traded to the Nets or leaving after his contract with Orlando is complete coming straight from his mouth, Dwight’s got a lot of image “purification” ahead of him this offseason. Unfortunately, he won’t have the Olympics to redeem himself, because he’ll be missing out due to injury, but this patriotic red, white, and blue make-up of the adidas adiPower Howard 3 is what he could’ve been wearing while swatting lay-ups and throwing down monster two-handers against the rest of the world. Another look at the ‘USA’ colorway of Howard’s third three-striper below, so take a gander and let us know where you think Dwight will ultimately land. Photos: kicks-crew

The 2012-13 NBA season is going to be quite different for Magic All-Star Center Dwight Howard. Without coach Stan Van Gundy on the sidelines, what sort of effect will that have on his game? Their inability to see eye-to-eye has been widely publicized, but you can bet that Dwight wants nothing more than to recover from his surgery and get back to dominating the paint without the distractions of the media, and he’ll do so with a clean slate while rocking his third signature sneaker with adidas Basketball – the adidas adiPower Howard 3. A rather slimmer package than the previous adiPower installment, the Howard 3 adopts the high-cut ankle peak with a redesigned midsole that gives off a bit of an old-school Shaq Attaq vibe, and features a tiger-stripe camouflage-like detailing along the collar of the ankle and down the lace placket. A gallery of Howard’s next adidas legacy is just below, so take a look and let us know what you think. Photos: hupu

Nike Basketball went off the rails for this year’s NBA All-Star sneakers, leaving the East blue/West red motif behind in a supernova of intergalactic colorways the likes of which we’ve never seen tied to the ASG. But if you think back to last year’s festivities, you might remember that a number of models were previewed in ‘off’ colors that didn’t make the cut. One notable trend-breaker from 2011 was Derrick Rose, sporting the adiZero Rose in a yellow PE colored after his high school alma mater, and just this morning we’ve seen the bright orange sequel that suggests we’re in the midst of a full-on All-Star palette renaissance. Check out fellow adidas Basketball pillar and ASG host Dwight Howard’s answer to the the adiZero Rose 2.5 ‘All-Star’, the adidas adiPower Howard in the same blazing colorway. Has Three Stripes burned their way into your mind when it comes to ranking the NBA All Star PEs, or should adidas and everybody else keep with the traditional color assignments we’ve come to expect? Let us know when you click through to see more of the ‘All Star’ adiPower Howard, and stick with Sneaker News for the most thorough coverage of ASG kicks leading up to the February 26th game in Orlando.

“You got everybody in here ‘Oh my gosh’-in’!”
Big Sean appropriated Rick James via MC Hammer for an entirely different purpose, but that doesn’t mean some of his lyrics aren’t indeed spot-on in describing adidas Basketball’s troupe of all-star dunkers. Three Stripes ballers Dwight Howard, Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday were on hand for the shooting of the adidas x Foot Locker ‘The Difference’ commercial a short while back, and the cameras kept rolling after the action was wrapped because these guys decided to put on another show. With the help of an unnamed young 1 with a handle like ‘The Professor’, all kinds of oops, reverse jams and 360-did-you-see-thats are being served up fresh, and you can see the entire highlight reel after the jump below.
