Air Jordan VI “Jason Voorhees” Customs by El Cappy

The nixed Nightmare on Elm Street-inspired ’Freddy Krueger’ Dunk Low SB is every bit the urban legend you’d expect from a shoe whose muse is a nightmare-inhabiting, razor-gloved mass murdering maniac.  Its signature sweater-and-seared-flesh look has been appropriated on a couple of color swap custom Air Jordans in recent months, and you can’t mention this ’80s slasher legend without his Friday the 13th peer and 2003 film foe entering the discussion.  So it was really only a matter of time and a question of ‘whodunit’ and with which ‘weapon’ before a design like El Cappy‘s latest came into the spotlight.

This Air Jordan VI ’Jason Voorhees‘ looks like it was exhumed from Camp Crystal Lake, a murky, detail-packed design whose distinct touches include blood-splattered laces and Voorhees’d ’Jumpman’ tees with decapitated heads to boot.  This item in particular is a reminder of how, in an entirely different way, Gourmet’s early catalog made a similar statement about the foundational nature of the Air Jordan’s influence in the streetwear world; should custom artists further extend their scope to include conceptual branding elements and other ‘official’ collaboration niceties?  Let us know what you think of El Cappy’s latest custom job when you’re on the other side looking at more photos and stick with Sneaker News for the sneakerhead scene’s best custom designs.

Last week we saw an Air Jordan V take on a custom look not too far off in the Jordan Brand repetoire. Today’s custom creation is something entirely different, tossing tradition aside in favor of a crazy floral print the likes of which an Air Jordan has never seen. Done by El Cappy, the pair is quite thorough on the flowery touches with the hand painted treatment even extended to the laces. Click through to check out some angles of this Air Jordan V that was built up from the GS ‘Strawberry Splash’ colorway and kinda comes off looking like an outtake from the Libery of London x Nike Sportswear series, and let us know what you think of El Cappy‘s latest piece.

Our latest spotlight on a custom sneaker creation comes from an artist who’s unquestionably at the top of his game right now; is El Cappy the best customizer doing it today?  We’ve seen him combine styles as disparate as Air Force 1s and Christian Louboutin, but even something as crazy as his ‘Las Vegas Nights’ AF1s can’t hold a candle to the vast scope expressed on this latest design.  The Nike SB Dunk High ‘What the Dunk’ is a hightop version of that legendary 2007 mashup that arguably paved the way for the advent of modern hybridization thanks to its approach that combined ‘spare parts’ from 20+ of the best SB Dunks.  The original ‘What the Dunks’ got sneakerheads everywhere talking about hybrid designs; how long will we remember El Cappy’s hightop version?

Air Jordan VI ‘Cannon’ Customs by El Cappy

Ever wonder why the Air Jordan VI seems to be the most frequent Jumpman silhouette selected for these types of custom creations? The recent retro of the white/varsity red colorway made its way to the outlets in fairly big numbers, letting heads like El Cappy pick them up as canvases at discount prices. The resulting wave has seen a ton of well-known combos ported over onto the Air Jordan VI, the latest of which continues the LeBron-centric trend by grabbing the ‘Cannon’ colorway of the Nike LeBron 9. The result stays pretty true to its muse, giving the high energy look a glossier feel thanks to the straightforward leather upper in comparison to LeBron’s teched out sig. Follow us after the jump for the full look at the Air Jordan VI ‘Cannon’ customs from El Cappy and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Michael Jordan always obeyed his thirst with Gatorade, but sneaker customizer El Cappy gave these Air Jordan VIs a nice contemporary upgrade by introducing the ‘Sprite’ colorway to his Air Jordan customs arsenal. The ‘Sprite’ motif became popular within the Nike LeBron line and particularly with the Nike LeBron 8 V/2 Low ‘Sprite’ that dropped last summer, but it certainly works here in this tonal royal blue upper and dyed translucent outsoles. Do these quench your thirst, or leave you wanting a bit more? Check out the quick shots of El Cappy’s latest sneaker custom after the jump and let us know how these compare to his last Black/Cement III Air Jordan VI custom.

Air Jordan VI ‘Black Cement’ Customs by El Cappy

Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan VI, but has anyone given this two-decade veteran more time and attention in recent months as the customizer known as El Cappy?  Eric Lowry just showed us his latest design earlier this week, a Freddy Krueger-inspired Six that’s just the latest in a long line of custom jobs he’s applied to this handiwork-friendly silhouette.  The latest is somewhat similar to a theme we saw Lowry employ about two months ago, but instead of the all-over Elephant print on his ‘Cement’ customs, this Air Jordan III-inspired design sees the Three’s signature element restricted to the AJVI’s unmistakably angular midsole tooling.  He also crafted the eyelets to resemble the III’s reinforcements, and with black/cement Elephant print G-Shock alongside, could this custom package rival some of Jordan Brand’s top-tier output?  And while the most obvious question would be whether these best IVII’s similar effort, but might they also be the best custom AJ6s we’ve ever seen?  Let us know what you think when you click thorugh for more photos and stick with Sneaker News for all the best custom sneaker designs.

Air Jordan VI ‘Krueger’ Customs by El Cappy

In this era when we’re seeing more new colorway ‘sampling’ custom designs than the traditional one-off approach, have any models been more popular repositories of other sneakers’ palettes than the LeBron 8 and Air Jordan VI?  The latter is back for yet another round, this time offering an expanded take on a theme that Nike SB once tried to utilize only to be turned back by legal troubles.  The Air Jordan VI ‘Krueger’ isn’t a tribute to industrial smoothing, but rather a sendup of Wes Craven’s Elm Street villain including his gruesome facial skin and singature striped sweater.  These are quite a bit more graphic than the Dunk Low Pro SB that got nixed when Paramount filed suit, but how do they compare to Diversitile’s Dunk Highs that popped up around the last Halloween?  Let us know which is the best Freddy Krueger sneaker yet and click thorugh to see more images of El Cappy‘s latest.
