Sneaker News has kept you on pace with the return of Ewing Athletics since it made its first peep months ago. Today, we’re just one week away from what is surely one of the best sneaker comebacks in history, and although not much has been confirmed as to how long the Ewing line will be stretched (they’ve done an outstanding job at keeping us on the edge of our seats), there’s no doubt that the Ewing 33 Hi and Ewing Athletics as a whole has its rightful place in today’s sneaker scene. The Ewing 33 Hi will be yours to keep next Friday, August 31st, at select retailers like Extra Butter, so check out their sick gallery of this much-anticipated release below and give us your take on the Ewing Athletics comeback and how it could potentially open the door for more early 90′s brands to make their own return.

Patrick Ewing told the world that his Dream Team would win “10 out of 10″ against the reigning Olympic champions, but the cited size advantage is among the key reasons this Hall of Fame center’s sneakers haven’t aged like Barkley, Pippen or Jordan’s. Historically, ‘big men’ shoes just haven’t sold as well as perimeter players’ (though to be fair, Ewing’s mid-’80s adidas Attitude and Conductors are still thriving), but just as the twentieth anniversary of the Dream Team and a still surging interest in kicks made for so many dope retros, the time is right for Ewing’s namesake brand to resurrect its most famous silhouette. The Ewing Athletics 33 High returns with both the white and the red of the original 1990 colorways next Friday, August 31st (the blue and black have yet to get a release date), but with only six NY-area retailers getting limited numbers to start, will you be able to get in on this long-lusted bringback?

Just yesterday Sneaker News showed you G.O.O.D. Music member Pusha T rock the stage at the Heineken Red Star Access show wearing the Ewing 33 Hi in the daring red colorway, but it wasn’t his solo Ewing appearance as he also wore the white-based ‘Knicks’ colorway – with matching tee – during one of the event’s outdoor performances. With Pusha on the Ewing grind, it seems like this upcoming re-release is on everyone’s radar, so are these already targeted in your radar? This past week brought us a long-awaited release date for the first two colorways of the Ewing 33 Hi retro, and while NYC will get first crack at them at the end of the month, it appears that some lucky fellas have been laced a bit early. First we saw DJ Clark Kent rocking the white “Knicks” edition, and now we get a look at Pusha T hitting the stage for last night’s Heineken Red Star show in Chicago in the red suede pair with the matching red logo tee. At long last, the first batch of 2012 Ewing 33 Hi retros is finally hitting retailers with a firm release date attached. The fun will begin where else, but New York City, as a select handful of Big Apple spots will have the honor of reintroducing the Ewing Athletics brand to the world. Among the chosen few is Manhattan’s Kith, who like the others, will be releasing the white/royal/orange “Knicks” home colorway as well as the red/black suede edition in very limited quantities on Friday, August 31st for a refreshingly reasonable price of $100. You can get a great detailed look at the first two colorways to drop after the jump, and stay tuned for additional release locations and info coming soon. One of the four confirmed releases of this August’s Ewing 33 Hi is indeed the classic White/Royal/Orange ‘Knicks; get-up, seen here on the feet of DJ Clark Kent. Clark was indeed one of the first to put of photos of the OG Ewing Athletics t-shirt, so it appears that he was given the shoes to match as well, as he proudly displays the Ewing tongue on the right shoe. Are you excited about the return of the Ewing 33 Hi? Knicks fans from the 90′s will likely share that sentiment, so check out the full shot below and don’t forget to cop your own when the Ewing 33 Hi drops later this month.

Patrick Ewing has officially reached his golden years as the former NBA great and New York Knicks center celebrated his 50th Birthday yesterday. The timing’s perfect as we are all anticipating a return of the Ewing Athletics line of sneakers, which is slated for a release later this month. Ewing’s decision to bring his signature brand back could not have come at a more opportune time with Retro basketball sneakers at an all-time high and the demand for vintage pieces like the Ewing growing by the day. Yesterday, Ewing Athletics, Patrick’s fans and some notable sneaker figureheads like Fat Joe, Chi McBride (from his pal p_e_gee), and DJ Clark Kent, gave birthday shout-outs to Mr. Ewing himself with the latter trio showing off the Ewing logo tees that were also given away to a few Twitter followers yesterday. We can only wait patiently for the official return in stores, starting with the Ewing 33 Hi, so for now check out the shirts and send out a birthday shout-out of your own to @EwingAthletics!

For those keeping a close ear to the ground for the looming release of the Ewing 33 Hi, August could not come any sooner. Ewing Athletics has been teasing and tickling us with just the right bits of info and images, and to close out the week and keep us guessing throughout the weekend, the Ewing team just filled us in on another great detail of the upcoming re-release – original hangtags and keychains! Remember, those basketball keychains is how Ewing got the ball rolling a few months back, but with confirmation that the hangtags will in fact be a part of the total package only adds to the mounting excitement of the Ewing 33 Hi. One of the best releases of the year? We certainly think so. Let us know if you plan on copping and we’ll keep you updated on more for the Ewing camp.
