Part of the equation Jordan Brand Classic 2013 is basketball, and the showcasing of young talent and future superstars. But another part of the equation, one just as crucial, is the goal of bringing together a mini-community of athletes and providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience crafted by the Jordan Brand. Leading up to the trio of games on Saturday, the kids bopped around NYC and discovered the heritage of the brand throughout the city, from a sit down event with Spike Lee and Sway out in Brooklyn to a trip to Gleason’s Gym for some boxing with Andre Ward.
Of course yet another aspect of the event is its star studded status, one that was particularly prevalent this year thanks to this year’s New York/Brooklyn locale. Countless athletes, rappers, and the like were spotted courtside (Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Victor Cruz, and Fabolous just to name a few). And then there was the Drake concert immediately following the final game which brought everybody out of their seats at the culmination of the evening. Continue reading to see what the Jordan Brand Classic kids were up to before the games went down, the celebrities that showed up, Drake’s explosive performance, and more in our Jordan Brand Classic 2013 event recap.

The Air Jordan VIII “Playoffs” 2013 retro is coming, you’ve just gotta be patient. Unless you’re Fabolous, who is plenty used to being blessed with early Air Jordan pairs. The Brooklyn rapper is shown here in that very colorway, although it’s unclear as to whether or not the Air Jordan VIII on feet in the image is of the 2007 or 2013 persuasion. Also notable is Fab’s “OG” sweatshirt, a Vandal-A design that’s been more and more popular amongst the sneakerhead set of late. Let us know if you think Fab’s got a new pair of the Air Jordan VIII “Playoffs” on in the comments below.

Towards the latter half of the evening Carmelo Anthony hit the stage for a Q&A with Knicks legend Bernard King hosted by Sway of MTV fame. Up next, the musical guests kept things focused on the Big Apple, as French Montana and Fabolous both ran through their own quick sets that had the hometown crowd in a frenzy. Hit the jump with us to check out the Jordan Melo M9 ‘Lock and Launch’ event recap and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more shots from the floor featuring upcoming colorways of Melo and Jordan’s latest.

New York native was definitely on the Ewing grind during the label’s original run, so there’s no doubt he was glad to ‘re-up’ on his Ewings. In fact, he just got his hands on the ‘Knicks’ colorway of the Ewing 33 Hi (set for a release on August 31st) with a matching vintage-inspired Ewing t-shirt, and you can bet he’ll be spotted in them sometime soon. It looks like the Ewing renaissance has officially spread throughout the celebrity crowd as we Pusha T rock the Red/Black and the ‘Knicks’ during his live performances last week, so we’ll let you know who’s got what until the official Ewing 33 Hi return goes down next Friday.

It’s good to be a celebrity with the right connections, especially if you know the right folks over at the Swoosh/Jumpman headquarters. Hip-hop celebrity and sneaker fanatic Fabolous just instagram’d his latest ‘got these early’ pick-up to his mass group of followers – the Air Jordan VI from he upcoming ‘Golden Moments’ Package that’ll surely cause a high level of pandemonium once it releases. For most folks the sneaker selection for any event going down out in South Beach would be a no-brainer. Loso here is apparently off that by now, having had his hands on the most recent South Beach infused style for months now. Fabolous instead decided to swerve around the obvious while still paying homage to King James and his current home, lacing up in the Nike LeBron 9 Low ‘Floridians’ while lampin’ at the Coors Pool Party at the Perry Hotel in Miami. Click through to see some shots of Fabolous in the LeBron sneaker that probably comes in right behind the All-Star pair as far as brightest 9′s go and let us know what you make of the fit in the comments below.
