Frank Kozik x Puma Suede “Denim Pack”

Spanish-American artist Frank Kozik is back to work on another set of sneakers, working with the Puma Suede for the second time around. Kozik apparently wasn’t satisfied with the suede set up and decided to flip the classic material with a set of different faded denims. Of course there are still a couple elements from the classic equation intact, namely the overall silhouette and the all-important fat laces. The three sneaker set will be releasing exclusively in Argentina on January 25h, so if you’re one of our North American readers you’ll need to do quite a bit of traveling to lock yours down. The Kozik x Nike SB Dunk High Premium QS bears no nickname beyond the artist’s own, but they’re sure to be talked about for years to come with a top-notch tonal olive build that beautifully echoes the ‘military’ aesthetic while avoiding the all-nylon ‘flight jacket’ approach. A select group will also be able to brag about owning one of the 25 individually numbered artist proof pairs that came with matching army bags and dog tags. This small number of special edition drops will hit Kozik’s website today at Noon eastern with complimentary signatures available upon request. When you consider the number of themes they’ve utilized over the years including plenty of Star Wars-inspired designs, it’s crazy to think that Nike SB hasn’t done any real military themes. Legendary pop artist Frank Kozik changes that with his collaboration on this Kozik x Nike SB Dunk High, a design whose almost entirely olive green upper belies the complexity of details ranging from the materials chosen to the sockliner and insole markings. Frank Kozik is one of those names that if you’re familiar with pop art and/or toy collecting needs no introduction, and if you end up following either of those interests, he’ll be among the first names you commit to memory. Kozik’s stylings have taken him from owning an indie record label and producing artwork for some of the 1990′s most important alternative rock groups, to more recent pursuits like designing toys for KidRobot including his signature Labbit figure. Kozik’s Nike Dunk High Premium Quickstrike reveals a similar level to attention, its flight theme realized with a luxurious tumbled leather overlay that makes the all-nylon designs slightly less impressive. Nike Sportswear’s Dunk Highs were among the kicks that actualy made it to retail with a ‘Galaxy’ theme during this year’s instant classic NBA All-Star weekend, but it looks like the skateboarding division has also been working on a similar look halfway between military garb and straight-up space boots. The Frank Kozik x Nike SB Dunk High Quickstrike is rapidly approaching, and in these new images we get a better sense for just how ‘Big Bang’-like these really are with a metallic Steel Green/Olive Khaki upper along with Safety Orange accents. Frank Kozik‘s Puma Suede designs aren’t tearing up the blogosphere like, say, the Nike Air Yeezy 2, but there’s no doubting this man’s ability to play a key role in a monster collaboration. One need only consult with their local Air Max 1 afficionado to get the discussion going on the 2005 Kid Robot collabo to recall that his special insoles were even more limited than the kicks that regularly move at north of $1500 these days. That kind of ‘insider’ connection in combination with a limited Quickstrike release makes this Kozik x Nike SB Dunk High a must have for reasons beyond its rugged military-themed good looks. Frank Kozik x Puma Suede ‘Smoking Bunny’ Pack

You might have expected these a bit earlier in the year, but just as Jordan Brand has proved with their staggered releases, it’s not written in stone that all Chinese New Year sneakers be released in February. But actually, despite the ‘Smoking Bunny’ character that appears on their heels, insoles, lacelocks and hangtags, this new Frank Kozik x Puma Suede trio isn’t a Year of the Rabbit-themed release. Instead, they seek to draw attention to the artist whose name is scrawled upon the lateral heels with leather-toed red, black and blue colorways set to hit retailers shortly.
