nine at nine flyknits summary Sneaker News NINE@NINE: Fascinating Flyknits

When the Nike Flyknit technology was first introduced to the world in February of 2012, it was described as a “knit for performance to create running footwear that features only the essentials”. There were stats trotted out about the incredibly lightweight Flyknit Racer (5.6 ounces for a size 9) and plenty of words written about their second skin nature – a feeling that Nike has been trying to get at for decades now. This week was a big one for Nike’s football (soccer) footwear, as they set up shop in Madrid to launch their brand new Mercurial Superfly boot. The good news for those of you who won’t necessarily be lacing up in soccer cleats anytime soon is that there is a Nike Free equipped HTM takedown of the model. That silhouette is spotted here on the feet of Nike CEO Mark Parker and features a blacked out upper that maintains the shape and lines of the Mercurial Superfly. Hope with us that these will end up making it to a retail release and stay tuned for more information on the new Nike Free Mercurial Superfly HTM.

nike flyknit history 20 A Complete History of Nike Flyknit Sneakers

Do you think you have every Nike Flyknit-based sneaker jotted down in your memory? There’s a lot more out there than what you might gather immediately, so Sneaker News has compiled every Nike sneaker with Flyknit Technology and placed them in chronological order for you to get familiar with. As a whole, the SN team has been big on Flyknit since the technology first debuted in early 2012, naming the overall innovation as the third most significant sneaker story of 2012 (beat out by the Air Yeezy 2 and Galaxy Foamposites). We understood the significance of the material since it would not be restricted to a few models, but that it would open up an entire category for the brand to toy around with.

nike htm mark tinker 1 Business of Fashion Profiles Nike HTM

For the unfamiliar: HTM isn’t just a generic name for a special edition shoe, nor is it an abbreviation randomly associated with Flyknit releases. HTM stands for Hiroshi, Tinker, and Mark-a design collective at Nike that’s long been the source of some of their most interesting projects. Giving a rare, behind the scenes look at that legendary team up is this new piece from Business of Fashion, which heads out to the Nike campus in Beaverton, OR to talk with the T and the M of the trio. Continue reading to see some scenes from the meetup and then get the full Nike HTM piece at Business of Fashion.

The HTM collective isn’t quite done touching up various Nike Flyknit silhouettes. Still to come is the Nike Free Flyknit 5.0 HTM, a model that ends up quite a bit different than the Nike Free Flyknit silhouette that’s already out there as far as the knitted upper is concerned. The grading on the bottom is indeed the same though so the ride should be reasonably familiar if you’ve actually got designs to run in a pair. Let us know how you feel about this volt flavored Nike Free Flyknit 5.0 HTM pair and stick with us to find out the release info.
