Is it still considered a collaboration if the two companies coming together are corporately linked? The last time Hurley and Nike came together nobody had any qualms about calling it that, and the recent Jordan x Converse pack fit into that category pretty well given the cross section of ideas and branding so we’d say so. The latest is the Hurley x Nike Free Run 3+, a pack that extends beyond the sneakers to dip into something Hurley is a bit more accustomed to with a set of their super popular Phantom board shorts to match. Click through with us to get a look at the pack, which will be impacting at premium NSW doors like 21 Mercer this Saturday, July 14th, and let us know if you’ll be picking up this special Nike Free Run 3+. Hurley x Nike Free Run 3+

It’s been over a decade since Nike acquired action sports brand Hurley, but the latter continues to operate autonomously and maintains a distinct identity from Nike and its own in-house action sports label. Last year, Hurley teamed up with Nike Sportswear for one of the sickest Air Max collaborations in recent memory, celebrating the launch of the new Hurley Phantom 4D board short while using the all-new Air Max 90 Hyperfuse as the base. Hurley and Nike join forces again with the Nike Free Run 3+ in a Black/Volt colorway with similar vector-line graphics imposed on the upper; this release, scheduled for July 14th, will come with a volt Hurley shoe-bag and will be priced at $110. Additional photos below, so take a look and let us know what you think!

The Nike Air Max 90 is one of those go-to models in the Nike Sportswear catalog that’s among the first to get any kind of technical upgrade.  We’ve seen them with Free soles and/or Flywire-reinforced uppers, the discontinued Moire series and most recently, the use of Vac-Tech and Hyperfuse construction.  The latest manages to one-up all of these with its unique application of Flywire AND Hyperfuse on a design inspired by Nike, Inc. brand Hurley’s ‘Phantom 4D’ Flywire boardshorts.  The Hurley x Nike Air Max 90 ‘Phantom 4D’ features those same vector graphics from the shorts that has also been carried over to a series of limited edition Hurley x LDG bike frames that’ll be on display at select Hurley events like the recent grand opening at Salvation Malibu.  And just down the coast at Nike Santa Monica, a raffle was drawn this morning to determine who’d be allowed to cop a pair, with no holds or phone orders allowed until Sunday at the earliest.  NSW’s 21 Mercer flagship in New York will begin selling theirs at 1pm today so click through to see more images and let us know what you think of this Dalek-derived collaboration.

Over the past decade, Nike has become synonymous with action sports thanks to the huge success of the SB sublabel and the 6.0 set in its wake.  We’ve seen Nike riders on everything from skateboards to BMX bikes and surfboards, but never before has the Swoosh reached across Nike, Inc. lines to incorporate the lifestyle clothing brand Hurley on a project.  The Hurley x Nike Air Max 90 ‘Phantom 4D’ is a stunning start, their radically reimagined uppers incorporating Flywire reinforcements along the lines drawn by James Marshall aka Dalek.  They look just like his Phantom 4D boardshorts currently worn by two-time defending US Open champion Brett Simpson and are limited to 500 pairs in conjunction with the opening of Salvation Malibu.  They’ll hit that store and several others next week so click through for more angles and stick with Sneaker News for the list of retailers and exact release date on Dalek’s Hurley x Nike Air Max 90s.
