Hussein Chalayan’s recent Puma designs have relied almost exclusively upon subdued colors. One notable exception is the Hussein Chalayan x Puma Conflate lowtop, a design that can be seen in its latest rendition to continue as a canvas for experimentation. Following up on last fall’s canary diamond-ish design, the simple lowtop silhouette takes on another colorful abstract blend of colors, which looks to have a bit of exotic feather and flower patterns in there. This design is innovative even with all the patterned kicks on store shelves these days, and you can find them available now at select Puma retailers like Kith.

Some of Hussein Chalayan’s work with Puma has been as bold as his most daring runway pieces. On the other end of the spectrum, the respected designer has authored some more traditional ultra-premium models, of which the Haast lowtop is a prime example. With lines derived from golden era runners and plenty of suede to match, the Haast was a solid contribution whose pricetag and low-key approach had most sneakerheads sleeping. But add in the popular Disc laceless enclosure that’s been LTWT’d and Fieg’d over the last year, and you’ve got a recipe for the Hussein Chalayan x Puma Haast Disc to make more of a splash this spring/summer. Puma’s Disc Blaze LTWT is the closest we’ve seen the German Cat come to matching Nike Sportswear’s enthusiasm for updating classic runners, but here’s another example of the ‘other’ Dassler brother’s brand taking more cues from NSW. With a distinct gradient perforation that can’t be compared to all that many designs in history, Hussein Chalayan’s Puma Haast places its name alongside standouts like the Air Moire and its Air Max 90 Current hybrid. Anthracite and Red Clay suedes ride atop silvery base layers and white/black ’80s-ish soles, and you’ll find more photos below before copping from SNS.

‘Urban’ is gone from the latest round of Hussein Chalayan’s Puma lifestyle sneakers, but city dwellers will no doubt find the sophistication in these designs familiar. The Hussein Chalayan x Puma ~~Urban~~ Conflate still looks like Puma’s take on an adidas Campus silo, but the German Cat’s harder to find on this pair, which is covered with a print inspired by modern space vehicle heat shields. They’ve got a distinctive prismatic look (heavy on the yellows) without the potential overload from an all-metallic design, the kind of best-of-both-worlds mashup hinted by the name. Hussein Chalayan’s output for Puma has been typified by ultra-sleek lifestyle designs with the occasional sculpted neck-breaker thrown in for good measure. He’s avoided working with most of the German Cat’s popular silhouettes in favor of entirely new designs with the exception of that superb un-branded R698 Jogger from 2010, but here’s proof that he might want to reconsider that route. The Hussein Chalayan x Puma Disc Blaze showed up at Project with a couple of heavily-ventilated designs featuring reworked Disc enclosures with the designer’s signature on the lateral side. They’ve got a heat/pressure weld look that’s in line with some of the other adventurous Disc Blaze LTWT colorups on tap for next year; how do these compare to those earlier previews?
