An awesome in-store event for the release of the Staple x Puma Clyde “Pigeon” was highlighted by an in-store appearance by Walt “Clyde” Frazier himself, who sat down with Staple Design founder Jeff Staple for a one-on-one conversation as part of the “1-2-1 w/jeffstaple” ongoing feature. In this snippet of convo, Walt talks about how he first got his sneaker deal with Puma and later talks about his personal style and how his “swagger” established courtside fashion, his thoughts on being one of the fifty greatest NBA players, and his opinion on the current state of guards in the game. We’ve got a full video below so take a look and absorb some true sneaker history right here!

Two absolute monsters of the sneaker game are about to collide. In one corner: Staple Design, the team behind the legendary, riot-inducing Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Pigeon’. In the other: Jordan Brand (we don’t really need to give you any background on them, right?). This cryptic image was just leaked out from head man Jeff Staple, with the collab looking to focus on the Air Jordan XI thanks to the roman numerals and accompanying dates up at the top of the tag. No word yet on whether it’s a sneaker or just an apparel collection, but heads would no doubt explode if the former were the case. Drop your comments on the project below and stay tuned for the first look at the Staple x Jordan Brand project.

What was once an expression of the shift in buying patterns that implied businesses could wait nearly eleven months before turning in a profitable year has gradually expanded to campouts for midnight store openings and a general expansion that this year sucked in a bunch of pigeons.  Jeff Staple‘s latest riff on his iconic New York-inspired motif dropped there in Reed Space’s hometown along with Size? locations across the Atlantic on Saturday nearly a full week ahead of Black Friday, and will soon hit select additional retailers across the globe.  The Staple x Size? x New Balance 577 ‘Black Pigeon’ hits a bunch more stores on December 1st which means STPL has managed to bookend a phenomenally strong week-plus in what appears to be a particularly savvy distribution strategy.  Click through to see which stores will have them (including a tiny list of US retailers) and stick with Sneaker News for updates.

Staple Design x Size? x New Balance 577 “Black Pigeon”

Jeff Staple’s contributions to the modern wave of sneakerhead culture cannot be understated, his legendary ‘Pigeon’ Dunk Low SB collaboration a watershed moment in the 21st century movement that cemented New York’s sneaker capital status and Nike SB’s street cred, and created a sense of excitement the likes of which so many designers have sought to replicate.  Staple himself has revisited the Pigeon theme a number of times, including thrice now with New Balance, who’ve released different color bases on different classic running silhouettes in 2008, ’09 and now coming up in just over a week.

The Staple Design x Size? x New Balance 577 ‘Black Pigeon’ makes good on a teaser image we saw one week less than one year ago today that had until this point been without a follow-up of any kind.  The color and materials appear identical after the long break, but we can see now that the tongue embroidery has been altered to reflect the version three-ness of this latest Staple New Bal collabo.  A bit too “low-down and dirty” to fit in with the rest of the Pigeon clan, this delayed NB577 touches down in London to celebrate the Flimby Factory’s 30th birthday at select Size? locations in the UK and Paris, along with their e-store starting next Saturday, November 17th. Also for stateside heads they will of course be up for grabs at Staple’s own Reed Space in NYC. We’re heading into a serious heatwave on the verge of the holiday shopping season, so have a closer look below and let us know how these compare to both Staple’s earlier (NB) collaborations as well as your other rapidly approaching options.
