Jeremy Lin has skyrocketed to global fame over the past year, and on Thursday he launched his charitable foundation that’ll benefit organizations in the Houston area.  Linsanity’s new home meant the Rockets’ point guard got to compete in the NBA Skills Challenge on his home floor Saturday night.  Lin had his choice of the Nike Lunar Hypergamer Low and Hyperdunk 2012 Low, and ended up going for the Lunar Hypergamer PE for the contest.  Click through to see more and let us know how these compare to the rest of the weekend’s amazing kicks.

The ‘Decision’ of 2010 seems like a walk in the park compared to the offseason fiasco we’re running through right now. Where will Dwight Howard land? Did D-Will make the right choice? Is Ray Allen now a marked man in New England? The 2012 NBA Season was actually one of the more eventful ones in recent years. The lockout shortened the season to a grueling 66-game schedule, and the two biggest stars in the NBA are currently going head to head in the NBA Finals in the match-up that hasn’t been so exciting for decades. What might eclipse both headlines on a global scale was the rise of Jeremy Lin in New York, where the former D-League star and NBA roster cast-off emerged as one of the most exciting players in the league, sprouting ‘Linsanity’ wherever he stopped to smell the roses. A special Nike Air Force 1 Low in a Knicks colorway was created with Lin-specific details on the tongue, heel, and insole, so while we haven’t seen many detailed angles nor has a U.S. release been confirmed, these have popped up in certain areas around the globe (a June release had been confirmed earlier). With the New York Knicks about to award interim coach Mike Woodson with a multiyear contract, one can’t help but notice that ‘What if?’ would be second only to ‘Linsanity’ for 2011-12 team taglines. What if the Knicks had Woodson and Jeremy Lin from the start, and what if Amar’e had tapped into the power of ‘serenity now’? Might an improved regular season record and resultant easier path through the playoffs have culminated in Lin’s Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low ‘Away’ PE drop coinciding with an NYK/MIA Eastern Conference Finals matchup instead of their lopsided first round affair? The Knicks’ season is done and Linsanity failed to make a reappearance (for what it’s worth, it’s would’ve been wiser for Lin to keep that knee healthy than making a feeble attempt at postponing the Knicks’ inevitable fall to the Heat), but Nike’s keeping the excitement alive with a second release of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low ‘Linsanity’ PE. Featuring a Black/Orange colorway and the bold-faced LINSANITY detailing on the insole, this second release should Lin in the conversation for sure as he enters into restricted free agency as a hot commodity (his upside as a player and marketing figure is very high). Will the Knicks match any offer, or is the price of keeping Linsanity in the Big Apple too much for the Knicks? It wasn’t enough to keep former coach Mike D’Antoni around when Carmelo and co. collectively checked out, but Jeremy Lin’s influence on the New York Knicks this season is still easily one of the year’s most notable stories.  The young Harvard grad who’d been all but forgotten by the talent-rich NBA seemingly came out of nowhere to spark an outbreak of ‘Linsanity’ when he set all kinds of records and led the Knicks to seven wins in his first seven starts.  This new Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Low PE is the ‘Away’ counterpart to the ‘Linsanity’ Hyperdunk 2011 Low that released about a month ago, it’s battle-ready black colorup just the kind of thing we would have expected to see from Lin in the playoffs, had a knee injury not prematurely ended his meteoric rise in the Big Apple.  Lin chose the cautious route so he’ll be ready come next season; will this ‘Away’ version of his Hyperdunk 2011 player exclusive be along for the ride?  Check back with Sneaker News for release info, and let us know which pair you prefer.  Photos: Kumastock

Tomorrow, the New York Knicks will being their postseason efforts, squaring off against a tough Heat squad in Round 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Should they advance past Miami we might just see Linsanity sweep the nation once again, with reports that Jeremy Lin will indeed be ready to play by that time. At the very least we’ll certainly see Linsanity in the sneaker world once again, with the Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Jeremy Lin’ seen here set to hit shelves as a quickstrike release this June.
