Yesterday, Major League Baseball celebrated Jackie Robinson Day with a league-wide tribute of #42 jerseys and special gear, with the Jordan Brand trio of C.C. Sabathia, Jimmy Rollins, and Carl Crawford hitting the diamond with special Jordan Brand PEs. Although C.C. Sabathia had a day off, Jimmy Rollins and Carl Crawford took the field with their Jordan 6 Rings PEs, with Crawford going the alternate route and wearing the White pair on the left and the Royal blue pair in the right. Rollins chose a similar route by switching up the shoes for his at-bats (he’s pictured here with the white pair). 66 years ago today Jackie Robinson took to the baseball diamond to make history as the first black man to play ball in major league baseball’s modern era. Celebrating his contribution to the game, and indeed to the American Civil Rights movement at large, Jordan Brand athletes C.C Sabathia, Jimmy Rollins, and Carl Crawford will suit up in this special version of the Jordan 6 Rings for tonight’s action. The sneakers feature a royal blue and white colorway and a special “42″ hit on the back end in honor of Robinson, and C.C. Sabathia is giving them away on Twitter! Follow C.C. Team USA won’t take to the plate in the World Basketball Classic till tomorrow, but Jimmy Rollins already felt the need to break out his special Air Jordan XII crafted up for the game anyway. Shown here is Rollins wearing the pair for the exhibition games that Team USA went through against both the Rockies and the White Sox. Phillies shortshop Jimmy Rollins provided the bulk of the MLB Feet highlights during the 2012 season with his Air Jordan PE Cleats, and it looks like he’ll be manning the highlight reel once more as we get a first look at the special Air Jordan XII PE Cleats for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Two colorways adopting the USA Flag are featured here in tonal patent leather construction – something never done before on an Air Jordan XII Retro release. The United States kicks off its World Baseball Classic mission this Friday against Mexico at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ, so be on the lookout for Rollins’ cleats when he takes the field for the US.

While Philadelphia Phillies fans are likely stunned at the fact that their team, just one season removed from a 100+ win season, is sitting dead-last in their Division, the sight of Jimmy Rollins’ sick Air Jordan PEs should ease the painful reality that the Phillies’ reign on top might come to an early end (though the long-term signing of Cole Hamels gives the Phillies’ a solid lefty anchor in the rotation). The first PE that Rollins wore this season was the Air Jordan XII, but here we get a nice look at the his personal PE logo on the heel, which combines an abbreviated version of his name with another sick ‘JR’ crest at the base. You saw them earlier getting all sullied up by some hard wear in the Phillies matchup against the Cardinals, now get a good look at them in pristine condition as they first arrived. This pic gives us a closer view of Jimmy Rollins’ latest Jordan Brand goodie, a special red and white Air Jordan XI player exclusive all outfitted with the Phillies look and cleats on the bottom. The colorway has no real precedent amongst the retail pairs of Air Jordan XI’s we’ve seen to date, with the red blocking being extra thorough and reaching up from the mudguard to dominant the top of the sneaker, but how do these compare to the other tonal Air Jordan XIs we’ve seen, like the ‘Blackout’ and ‘Pantone’ samples? It’s safe to say that if you’re scanning for PE Air Jordan heat at the moment you’ve probably got your eyes glued to the 2012 NBA Playoffs, what with Jordan Brand representatives like Ray Allen and Dwyane Wade going deep and bringing with them the possibility of some very special sneakers. All the while Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies is out there on the diamond ever so casually tearing things up with some PE cleats to revival the likes of the hardwood heavy hitters. His latest: the Air Jordan XI, outfitted with a straightforward Phillies colorway of red and white that conveniently overlaps with the MJ/Bulls repertoire. Last week, Sneaker News gave you an informal introduction to the latest member of the Jordan Brand MLB roster – former MVP and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins. He made his presence in our headlines known by wearing a sick Red/White Player Exclusive of the Air Jordan XII in cleat form, and he followed that up with a Grey/Red version once the Phillies went off on their road trip early last week.
