Air Jordan XII Retros have released sporadically over the past two-plus years, starting with the ‘Nubuck’ re-release in early 2009 and most recently with two pairs of lows dropping this past summer. Over this period, we’ve noted a marked increase in Jordan Brand ballers rocking the Twelves in our NBA Feet feature, but none of these player exclusive special makeups have made it to retail. Perhaps that wasn’t always the plan, as the tags on this Air Jordan XII Joe Johnson PE like the ones we spotted him wearing last February indicate that they’re a sample for the 2009 holiday season. We’re betting JB made the right call in not releasing two different black nubuck AJXIIs with red accents in same quarter, but would Hawks fans have swooped in to ensure these were a sellout just like the ‘Flu Game’ revision? Click through so you can see some closeups including Johnson’s personalized heel embroidery, and check out the sample pair available for a short time from ace1185 on eBay.

The Atlanta Hawks defeating the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2011 Playoffs stands as the lone upset in the Eastern Conference, but was it really an upset? Thanks to Joe Johnson’s 18 points and 6.5 rebounds a game, the Hawks have punched a ticket for a Eastern Conference Semi-final showdown against the Chicago Bulls. You can catch Johnson wearing these two PE colorways of the Jordan Phase 23 Hoops; the ‘Home’ features a out-of-the-ordinary tonal red upper while the Away version features a dark navy blue. Both pairs feature the paint-splatter graphic on the upper ‘wings’ as well as Joe Johnson’s PE logo on the tongue. More detailed images await you below so take a look and let us know if you think the Hawks have what it takes to pull off two upsets in a row!

You might be wondering how this colorway is a Player Exclusive for the Hawks given their current red, white, navy blue jersey, but these date back to 2006/2007 when the Air Jordan V was subject to a mass Retro-release. That coincides with Atlanta’s uniforms at the time, which featured red, yellow, black, and white – an updated version of the older style worn by Dominique Wilkins. The ’06-’07 season was just the second for Johnson, and it also happened to be his first season averaging more than 20 points a game and being an NBA All-Star. Jordan Brand certainly struck the iron while it was hot, and they did so by outfitting Johnson in this Air Jordan V PE. This particular size 16 pair has never been worn, and you can quickly determine that these were in fact made for the former Arkansas University standout based on the ’2′ stitched on the heels. This PE colorway is somewhat similar to the WMNS release of the Air Jordan V often referred to as the ‘Sunset’ colorway for the use of Sunset yellow on the midsole. Additional images await you below, but if you want to take it a step further and check out what the asking price is, take a look at the auction from bugginoutboy on eBay.
