JORDAN SON OF MARS The Jordan Son of Mars is a hybrid design from Jordan Brand in the same vein as the Jordan Spiz’ike. The name references Spike Lee’s “Mars Blackmon” character frequently featured in Air Jordan ad spots, with the sneaker itself grabbing design elements from all of the Air Jordan models Spike played a part in promoting: the Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XX.

Making its first appearance in GS form with a 2013 suffix, this new modification to the Son of Mars hybrid represents the first such move from a Jordan Brand mashup. The Jordan Son of Mars Low resides in that 5/8ths territory with a low-cut silhouette that offers a middle ground between the traditional basketball midtop and the football-inspired lows that’ve gained traction over the past five years. It looks like the Jordan Son of Mars is making a return after a handful of months of silence wherein the Jordan Spiz’ike was the hybrid model of choice. The design looks to be coming back in 2013, albeit in a slightly altered silhouette. This time around the sneakers skip out on the strapped up look across the laces and opt for a more Air Jordan VI style set up there. The month of September is one poised to sort of steer things away from retros for the moment as far as Jordan Brand is concerned. Sure we kicked off the month with this OG Air Jordan VII colorway, but right after that the plan is for signatures and hybrids to sort of take over for a few weeks. Next weekend for example we’ll get our hands on this all new Jordan Son of Mars colorway, one of many silos to sport the Bordeaux tone in the month of September. The most recent revelation from Jordan Brand’s highly successful Son of Mars hybrid is a style that looks like a combination of colorways from the ‘Golden Moments’ Package. And like that two-pack that sold out instantly and more-than-doubled in price just as fast on the resale market, these will be difficult for many guys to get their feet into, just for different reasons. This Jordan Son of Mars comes with the GS tag that goes with JB’s ladies releases and kids (grade school) sizes, and while this style would certainly be snatched up as a full-size run, CNCPTS has them listed as a ‘girls’ drop. Will we ever see these in adult proportions or is this Matte Silver and Metallic Gold Son of Mars destined to remain a GS-only? We’re currently sitting toward the tail end of the month-plus gap between Son of Mars releases, and now have an idea of what might be coming up after the ‘Bordeaux’ drop next weekend. Featuring a GS suffix that looks more like ‘Golden Moments‘ than ‘Girls’, this new Jordan Son of Mars adds a healthy portion of grey (a base shade this silo loves so well) sandwiched in the middle of the black and white plus gold style that made that AJ6+7 two-pack arguably Jordan Brand’s best effort of 2012. We have a bunch more photos after the jump so you can decide for yourself if JB needs to make these in mens sizes, and be sure to check back with Sneaker News to see if these end up like the ‘Prism Blue’ kids drop, or more along the lines of the GMP GS previews we saw foreshadowing wider availability.

Ever since the Jordan Son of Mars made its debut in that oh so colorful ‘Pop Art’ colorway its been heading towards more subdued looks, the subsequent ‘Club Purple’ coming off a bit more unified in its design and the recent stealthy release also toning things down color wise. Next up is the ‘Bordeaux’ on tap for the middle of September, shown off here in the form of the official Jordan Brand shots, which is no doubt the darkest affair yet with the only popping shade being the university gold for the tongue area Jumpman. Tomorrow, the push for the Spiz’ike’s first-born continues as the Jordan Son Of Mars arrives yet again in this ‘Stealth’ colorway. Paired with Shaded Blue and University Gold, this new colorway brings back that ‘Nuggets’ vibe that was popular when Carmelo Anthony and those new powder blue uniforms changed the culture of Denver basketball.
