JORDAN SON OF MARS The Jordan Son of Mars is a hybrid design from Jordan Brand in the same vein as the Jordan Spiz’ike. The name references Spike Lee’s “Mars Blackmon” character frequently featured in Air Jordan ad spots, with the sneaker itself grabbing design elements from all of the Air Jordan models Spike played a part in promoting: the Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XX.

This new Jordan Son of Mars GS colorway just popped up out of nowhere, and as befits a hybrid design that’s exceeded expectations with its performance at retail, the response to these has been decidedly positive. What we’re looking at here is basically a ‘White Cement’ Son of Mars that’s been altered ever so slightly, much like the upcoming true ‘Bordeaux’ edition: the addition of a muted color from the ‘cool’ part of the spectrum adds a fresh twist on a classic Air Jordan signature palette. Check out this ‘Prism Blue’ Son of Mars in greater detail after the jump and let us know if you’ll 1.5-up to get into a pair of these when they drop on Saturday, June 16th at Jordan Brand retailers like Social Status.

The Jordan Son of Mars has thus far been split about evenly between familiar and fresh colorways but this latest pair manages a middle ground by dusting off a classic look courtesy of a brand new color shade. The Jordan Son of Mars just arrived in a new style for kids (these are GS; select retailers have PS and TD sizes as well), one that brings the ‘White Cement’ heat but cools it with a new-for-2012 shade known as Prism Blue. It’s such a muted shade that the effect is totally neutral while still adding a bit more energy and you’ll find these in-store now at Cambridge’s Concepts.

Just like the Air Jordan XII ‘Cool Grey’ and NSW ‘What The Max’ Pack from last weekend, it appears this weekend’s big Air Jordan releases are getting the bump yet again from Nikestore. As of right now, the Air Jordan 1 KO pairs along with the Jordan Son of Mars, officially scheduled for a June 2nd release, will not be available this weekend at their online store, with a yet undecided future date in the works. Do you prefer this new second-chance approach and do you think we’ll see it more often going forward? Let us know in the comments below and we’ll keep you updated when Nikestore makes these available at a future date.

The Jordan Son of Mars has been a pleasant surprise in 2012, a follow-up to Jordan Brand’s most successful hybrid to date that has us wondering if it might even one day surpass the Spiz’ike. Colorways like this Wizards/Nuggets look with a variety of grey tones on the upper are just too wearable to pass up, and when you combine those qualities with seamlessly integrated signature elements from the Air Jordan Legacy’s golden era, these emerge as another can’t-miss. Slated for an August drop date, they do come up against some stiff competition with all the ‘Olympic’ Air Jordans scheduled for Q3; let us know if you’ll cop these after inspecting some new images below. The treatment of the ‘Bordeaux’ colorway from 2011 to 2012 couldn’t be more different, with last year bringing it back on the model that first established the combo in the form of the Air Jordan VII and this year flinging it onto the all new hybrid the Jordan Son of Mars. Previews have been pretty slim so far, a dry spell we’re here to break with this set that gives you a good idea of how the ‘Bordeaux’ look transfers. Stay with us after the jump for all the angles and let us know if you’re feeling the Jordan Son of Mars’ new trend towards more classic looks. Also, make sure you’ve got your calender marked for the September 15th release date of the Jordan Son of Mars ‘Bordeaux’. Photos: marquee sole

Spike Lee’s made quite the impression on the sneaker game, hasn’t he? While his tenure as an Air Jordan spokesperson was short-lived in comparison to the entire span of the Air Jordan, he made his mark in (arguably) the best stretch of releases – the Air Jordan III-VI – while making a comeback with the Air Jordan XX. The Son Of Mars is a tribute of sorts, encapsulating those five models in a finely-tuned hybrid model, and it finally arrives in a classic Bulls colorway after initially releasing in ‘Pop Art‘ and ‘Club Purple‘, Best Son Of Mars colorway yet? Find out on June 2nd, when these are scheduled for a release, but flip through Jordan Brand’s official images below for a closer look.

Each year around the time school lets out and the NBA wraps up its postseason tournament, sneakerheads can’t help but remember that this was the season when Michael Jordan cemented his untouchable legacy. Each of the full campaigns Mike played in the ’90s resulted in a championship ring, and with his Chicago Bulls teammates united in matching MJ’s black sneakers, the pair pictured above reminds us that one of His Airness’ greatest strengths was raising the game of role players sometimes known as his ‘Jordanaires’. The Jordan Son of Mars has a ‘Scottie Pippen’ in the GS edition as well as PS and TD-sized editions for the Steve Kerrs and John Paxons of your family, you know, the ones who don’t quite contribute equally yet still help to define your success. Outfitting the fam in ‘Bred’ Son of Mars will be possible when this expansive run drops next Saturday, June 2nd; will you be adding a kids pair to your own purchase from shops like CitySole?
