JORDAN SON OF MARS The Jordan Son of Mars is a hybrid design from Jordan Brand in the same vein as the Jordan Spiz’ike. The name references Spike Lee’s “Mars Blackmon” character frequently featured in Air Jordan ad spots, with the sneaker itself grabbing design elements from all of the Air Jordan models Spike played a part in promoting: the Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XX.

The Jordan Son of Mars has been a pleasant surprise in 2012, a follow-up to Jordan Brand’s most successful hybrid to date that has us wondering if it might even one day surpass the Spiz’ike. Colorways like this Wizards/Nuggets look with a variety of grey tones on the upper are just too wearable to pass up, and when you combine those qualities with seamlessly integrated signature elements from the Air Jordan Legacy’s golden era, these emerge as another can’t-miss. Slated for an August drop date, they do come up against some stiff competition with all the ‘Olympic’ Air Jordans scheduled for Q3; let us know if you’ll cop these after inspecting some new images below. Spike Lee’s made quite the impression on the sneaker game, hasn’t he? While his tenure as an Air Jordan spokesperson was short-lived in comparison to the entire span of the Air Jordan, he made his mark in (arguably) the best stretch of releases – the Air Jordan III-VI – while making a comeback with the Air Jordan XX. The Son Of Mars is a tribute of sorts, encapsulating those five models in a finely-tuned hybrid model, and it finally arrives in a classic Bulls colorway after initially releasing in ‘Pop Art‘ and ‘Club Purple‘, Best Son Of Mars colorway yet? Find out on June 2nd, when these are scheduled for a release, but flip through Jordan Brand’s official images below for a closer look.

Jordan Son of Mars ‘Bred’ – Full Family Sizes

jordan son of mars bred full family sizes Jordan Son of Mars Bred Full Family Sizes

Each year around the time school lets out and the NBA wraps up its postseason tournament, sneakerheads can’t help but remember that this was the season when Michael Jordan cemented his untouchable legacy.  Each of the full campaigns Mike played in the ’90s resulted in a championship ring, and with his Chicago Bulls teammates united in matching MJ’s black sneakers, the pair pictured above reminds us that one of His Airness’ greatest strengths was raising the game of role players sometimes known as his ‘Jordanaires’.  The Jordan Son of Mars has a ‘Scottie Pippen’ in the GS edition as well as PS and TD-sized editions for the Steve Kerrs and John Paxons of your family, you know, the ones who don’t quite contribute equally yet still help to define your success.  Outfitting the fam in ‘Bred’ Son of Mars will be possible when this expansive run drops next Saturday, June 2nd; will you be adding a kids pair to your own purchase from shops like CitySole?

Jordan Son Of Mars – Air Yeezy ‘Grammy’ Customs By The Wolfstein

jordan son of mars grammy 1 Jordan Son Of Mars Air Yeezy Grammy Customs By The Wolfstein

Jordan hybrid sneakers are always under the careful scrutiny of purists of the brand, but surprisingly, the verdict on the Son Of Mars was reached rather quickly upon its debut release in February. A similar release known as the Rare Air of 2010 was, for lack of a better word, a flop, which made the popularity of the Son Of Mars are ‘suprise’. With a nice crop of upcoming releases on the way, like the ‘Bred’, the ‘Bordeaux’, and the new ‘Grey/Gold/Blue’, the Son Of Mars is staying put, but Mache Customs proved, with his sick Air Yeezy Customs, that perhaps the right colorway was all the shoe needed.

Today, we get a look at another Son Of Mars custom inspired by the Air Yeezy –  the unreleased sample colorway worn by Kanye during his 2009 performance at the Grammy Awards. Done by Brian ‘Wolfstein’ Villanueva, this Mars x Yeezy custom adopts a similar tonal black upper, but with grey hits on the midsole, a hint of red on the outsole, and a powerful glow-in-the-dark toe, illuminating a refreshing blue glow. We’ve got a detailed gallery of this great custom work just below, so if you want to get a jump on some of Wolfstein’s crazy custom projects, follow Brian Wolfstein Villanueva on Twitter to be on top of his projects and let us know what you think of the Son Of Mars Air Yeezy’ Grammy’ customs below!

Jordan Son of Mars ‘Bred’ – Release Date

jordan son of mars bred release date 1 Jordan Son of Mars Bred Release Date

The most recently previewed pair of Jordan Son of Mars apparently takes its golden-accented cool good looks from Michael’s brief tenure in the nation’s capital, but the color scheme in which His Airness’ cast his immense legacy isn’t about to be left out.  Quite to the contrary, in fact, as the ‘Bred’ Son of Mars is the next out the gate in just under two weeks.  This patent-mudguarded pair looks especially ‘Stealth’-y, and with a monster drop like the ‘South Beach’ LeBron 9 Elite also dropping next Saturday, June 2nd, how likely are these to fly under the radar?  It’s hard to imagine a black and red colorup on a popular Jordan sitting on shelves too long, so take a moment to check these out below before you begin plotting on your cop.  Photos: SneakerBox Clyde

Jordan Son of Mars – Grey – Blue – Gold

Each of the Jordan Son of Mars colorways we’ve seen to this point have quickly come along with nicknames (however precise), and though the pair pictured above remains the sole exception to that rule, there are a couple of Jordan Brand story lines that could weave their threads into this palette.  The mix of greys with soft blue and gold accents is the latest chapter in a tale begun when the ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan XI dropped in 2010.  This immensely wearable palette is also easily connected to MJ’s days as a Washington Wizard or Carmelo Anthony’s first seven and a half years in Denver, or you could get really creative and see this as a visual bridge between Mike’s last season at UNC and his first Olympic gold medal at the 1984 LA Games.  Any way you slice it, this is a versatile design that, paired with the Son of Mars’ early momentum, is shaping up to be one of the summer’s sleeper hits.  We expect them at select JB retailers on August 11th and you can see some more angles after the jump below.  via AR
