JORDAN SON OF MARS The Jordan Son of Mars is a hybrid design from Jordan Brand in the same vein as the Jordan Spiz’ike. The name references Spike Lee’s “Mars Blackmon” character frequently featured in Air Jordan ad spots, with the sneaker itself grabbing design elements from all of the Air Jordan models Spike played a part in promoting: the Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XX.

Some sneaker custom ideas are stories that write themselves, like Mache Customs’ Jordan Son of Mars ‘Son of Yeezy’ that we first showed you yesterday. Mache states that “from the moment I saw pics of the Son of Mars release, I knew I was going to try this’, citing the Air Jordan midsole, bulky midfoot strap, padded ankles, and translucent sole. While the Son of Mars and Air Yeezy don’t exactly share the same DNA, they undeniably share some similarities – perhaps the folks over at Jordan Brand had the Yeezy in mind when coming up with this hybrid model. As you can clearly see, Mache used the Black/Pink Air Yeezy as the inspiration for the colorway, going as far as adding glow-in-the-dark treatment to the outsole, giving the strap a glossy patent-leather-like appeal, and etching in the Yeezy ‘Y’ logo onto the heel. These are currently a 1-of-1, but let’s hope that Mache will pump out a few more of these (and in the other Air Yeezy colorways too!). More viewings of the Jordan Son of Mars ‘Son of Yeezy’ below, so take a look and stick with Sneaker News for more updates. Thanks to Mache for the pics!

Did Yeezy teach Mache how to do customs? Well, we know for sure that he directed him toward his latest custom creation – the Jordan Son Of Mars ‘Son Of Yeezy’. One of the design features of the Jordan Son Of Mars that seemed to be a bit of a turn-off to some Jordan fans was the mid-foot strap, so Mache transformed it into a sneaker that uses a thick mid-foot strap as a highlight of its aesthetic – the Nike Air Yeezy. Reconstituting the Son Of Mars ‘Club Purple’ into the Black/Pink Yeezy in a seamless form, the Son Of Yeezy is the perfect overlapping of the Air Yeezy in its most popular form and the hybrid design of the Son of Mars. Enough talk – check out the gallery of Mache Customs’ latest banger and let us know if this sick concept changes your opinion of the Son Of Mars!

The Jordan Spiz’ike that was previously dubbed ‘Bordeaux’ caused a bit of controversy, as the true colorway had no clear similarities with the original Air Jordan VII that made ‘Bordeaux’ a household Air Jordan name. A similar colorway of the Jordan Son Of Mars followed not long after, but that was officially dubbed the ‘Pop Art’ by Jordan Brand, easing any sort of debate regarding an Olympic/Bordeaux nickname. Perhaps Jordan Brand went the extra mile to create a nick-name in house, because a true Bordeaux colorway of the Jordan Son Of Mars was in store, spotted here in DJ Khaled’s video of a behind-the-scenes look at his music video shoot. One quick glance and you’ll see that the Bordeaux connection is rather clear, so now that we know for sure that a Bordeaux Son of Mars is on the way, let us know what you think of this release and check out some more of DJ Khaled’s sneaker collection in the video below.

While all of Jordan Brand’s hybrid designs can be traced back to the Dub Zero that released in commemoration of twenty years of the Air Jordan Legacy, the model pictured above traces its roots and derives its name from one that hit two years later. The Jordan Son of Mars refers to this the fact that JB is doing the right thing again, combining elements from Air Jordans III-VI with a little XX sprinkled on top, a suitable sequel to the Spiz’ike that came out of the gate with a ‘Pop Art’ colorway the two shared. This new Son of Mars goes with a Concord-leaning colorup that’s heavy on purple without the familiar aqua tones that tend to accompany it, a crisp style that’ll be available at select retailers in full family size runs starting Saturday, April 7th. Let us know if you’ll head out over the weekend to grab these at shops like West in New York, or you can lock them up early by buying now on eBay.

The most recent piece of Sneaker News regarding the new Jordan Son of Mars hybrid was a Celebrity Feet spotlight featuring H to the Izzo in the ‘Pop Art’ colorway some lableled ’Bordeaux’. The latest is similar in that it has a hook to a standout Air Jordan Legacy original in the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ (which we’ve also seen Jay-Z wearing), so might Shawn Carter someday soon be spotted rocking this ‘Club Purple’ Son of Mars? Jordan Brand’s latest hybrid has the above pictured colorup slated to hit select retailers like Social Status next Saturday, April 7th, so click through to see more images and let us know if you plan to cop a pair.

It seems like Pop-Art is making a comeback in more ways than one. After tearing it up at SXSW, Jay-Z returned home to the Big Apple and was spotted in New York City with wife Beyonce and new-born Blue Ivy on their way to Nobu restaurant. Jay-Z’s style caught the attention of some photographers, as he matched his simple gear with the Jordan Son Of Mars ‘Pop-Art’, a shoe that’s been spotted on several celebrities since it released earlier this month. The Son Of Mars has seen mixed reviews by Sneaker News readers, but they seem to be a-okay in Hova’s book, so check out Jay-Z and his kicks below and let us know if you copped a pair. via mirror

The Spiz’ike is undoubtedly Jordan Brand’s most successful hybrid sneaker design to date, its recipe for success a combination of elements from Air Jordans III-VI with a little XX sprinkled on top. The Twenty’s contribution is actually more like a savory filling, as its signature laser etching appears only on the sockliner where it’s almost entirely obscured. This is one of the big opportunities that allows the Jordan Son of Mars to use essentially the same range of Jays to come up with an entirely different result. This ‘Concord’-leaning Son of Mars puts its laser cuts right out in the open on the XX-style massive midfoot strap, while the AJ5-inspired midsole catches your eye with its speckle-enhanced sawtooth. Jordan Brand’s Son Of Mars debut last week was met with surprising success, leaving store shelves at a much higher frequency and pace than expected. It seems like these days, any Air Jordan or Air Jordan-inspired shoe is at risk of disappearing at retail, but with the growing community of sneakerheads and the widening tastes and preferences, it’s a retail trend that was quite honestly, to be expected. There are four known colorways of the Jordan Son Of Mars thus far; the ‘Pop Art’, the Black/Red, an unseen ‘Olympic’, and this White/Varsity Purple rendition that should hit retailers soon. If the release of the Pop Art is any indication of how the Club Purple release will go down, you’re better of locking in your pair right now by securing one of the available units from el-store on eBay.
