2002′s ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan IX Retro was the first to copy the recipe for success laid out by the AJXI, right down to the patent leather mudguard that was also a first for the Nine. Nearly a decade later, we know all too well how potent the CG colorway remains, evidenced by the fact that despite this newJordan V.9 Grown being cast in Dark Grey, the similarities are too overwhelming to ignore. These V9s go for an all-patent leather upper along with gum rubber on the vulcanized sole to achieve a look that’s neutral from afar but quickly reveals it’s out for attention thanks to the ultra-glossy sheen. Would you want to see a ‘Cool Grey’ Air Jordan Retro with a gum sole? This might be the closest we ever get, and they’re available now from Caliroots.

Jordan Brand’s latest lifestyle sneaker design features the same naming convention and Elephant print outsole as the rest of the series, but the Jordan V.9 Grown is a departure in the sense that it’s the first Grown based on an Air Jordan Legacy model. Their closest match is to the Air Jordan II thanks to the ridged heel, though one could also see the AJIX in the two-piece vamp. Click through to see more angles on this Velvet Brown pair, let us know how they compare to some of JB’s best lifestyle kicks and stick with Sneaker News for the US release date. via Dunk

After introducing the Jordan Grown series in the Fall of 2011, Jordan Brand has retooled the mature man’s Jordan shoe into the V.5 Low and the V.9 you see above. Inspired by the Air Jordan II, the retooled Jordan V.9 Grown utilizes a molded upper with a clean, vulcanized midsole and a new tongue with a Jumpman logo molded onto a unique stitched graphic. For the Holiday 2011 season, Jordan Brand will releases this trio of patent leather colorways – a sexy red, a deep black, and a crisp and clean grey. Whereas Jordan Brand’s V.2 Grown was basically the second version of the Campus Chukka design and the V.5 a lowtop variant, the Jordan V.9 Grown actually draws upon the Air Jordan Legacy model with that same number. The V9s debut in a dope tumbled grey nubuck getup with black accents that nail the simple lifestyle look and are joined by the equally simply pleasing Air Jordan 1 Phat in black carbon fiber. Despite the obvious advantage from that lightweight material, both of those are best kept to anchoring your outfits, while the Trunner LX ’11 offers serious performance during your chosen training activities. Click through to see all three pairs in more detail and look for yours at JB retailers like Extra Butter.
