KEVIN DURANT
Kevin Durant, aka KD and ‘Durantula’, is the youngest of the three Nike Basketball signature athletes. His Zoom KD signature line is designed by Nike designer Leo Chang; the Zoom KD is most recognized for its low price-point – a product detail specified by Kevin himself. Kevin is currently the star player of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and has won three consecutive NBA Scoring Titles from 2010 to 2012.

Kevin Durant finishes off the signature athlete tour for Nike Basketball as he visits China for even more basketball-focused events and fun for his fans around the globe. During one of the Q&A sessions, KD was seen with the upcoming ‘Gold Medal’ colorway of the Nike Zoom KD IV, a shoe that has yet to release in the States. During recent interviews with U.S. media outlets, Durant has stated that he’s just now entering his prime, which signifies that he recognizes a potential for improvement (quite scary considering he’s not yet 24 years of age)! With a Gold Medal under his belt, he’ll be vying the Larry O’Brien Gold come next June, but in the meantime, we’ll keep you updated with release info on these golden KDs.

Kevin Durant spend some free time in New York City this week after checking “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” off his list of things to do, but it looks like he’s still in that Team USA state of mind as he was spotted in the streets in Nike x USA gear. Wearing a Nike Running half-zip top and Volt colorway of the Nike Flyknit Trainer+, Durant looks like he could very well be in Olympic mode, but instead he’s taking a much needed vacation before he heads over to China to tour around the country and offer up some basketball clinics to the youth. A full shot of KD in the Flyknits below, so take a look and let us know what you think.

All of yesterday’s Olympic excitement was capped off by a nice recap of a Dream Team Showcase at a Nike Basketball location in South Korea. If you managed to flip through the gallery of images, you would’ve spotted some interesting figurines modeled after Nike Basketball’s Big Three – Kobe, LeBron, and KD. Turns out it was a Nike-commissioned project, in which they tapped the skills of South Korean toy-maker Coolrainz (they’ve worked together before); a total of six models were made (two of each player), with one in complete Team USA and sig shoe gear and another all-black version with white facial hair and Nike Sportswear apparel. A detailed gallery of the figurines are just below, so take a look and let us know what you think!

As we wrap up the current cycle of signature shoes and the last of the remaining releases hit stores, we lay out a fresh new doormat and welcome in the next installments of LeBron, Kobe, KD, CP3, Melo, and Fly Wade for the upcoming 2012-2013 NBA Season. Yesterday, we were given a nice helping of fresh new kicks as LeBron James debuted his LeBron X during Sunday morning’s Gold Medal game (as did Chris Paul his CP3.VI), but Kevin Durant actually had his fellow Gold Medalists beat by about a month; Durant participated in a commercial shoot for NBA 2K13 while wearing the NBA 2K13, and although the full commercial won’t go on air until later on, we caught some clear viewings of the Nike Zoom KD V that will be featured in that upcoming ad.
After catching a glimpse of the KD V in catalog image form earlier this year, this first real-world view of the V reveals some interesting details; first off, the Adaptive Fit strap has been removed in favor of a unique boot-like construction using a non-traditional tongue, the pronounced heel-counter should serve as an added stability feature for KD (who likes shoes tight-fitting), and the high-cut tongue and lower heel adds some visual flair in a manner similar to the Lunar Hyperdunk+ and LeBron 9. We’ll keep you updated on the Zoom KD V as Nike prepares for the official unveiling later this year, but check out the images below and let us know what you think of the next step in Durant’s growing Nike saga below!

Nike Basketball’s sensational trio of signature athletes has to get some recognition as part of its 20 Year Retrospective, right? Kevin Durant’s meteoric rise to superstardom is all substance and no filler – an organic humility that designer Leo Chang transferred over to the Nike Zoom KD IV; Chang describes the design of of the KD IV as a “shoe that’s stripped down to his essence – nothing less, nothing more”, so as he heard Durant’s demands of a shoe that’s “light and tight”, Adaptive Fit was created to the lower-cut build, allowing KD to adjust the tightness to his own liking and essentially making the KD IV an all-positions, all-skill shoe. The details in the shoe are worth noting as well, as the many ‘easter eggs’ carved into the design pay tribute to some special figures in KD’s life. More of the KD IV below, so stay tuned for the next and final installment of Nike Basketball: 1992-2012!

The Olympics are all business, but if you overpowered your opponent so emphatically like Team USA did Tunisia, you deserve a little break. After defeating Tunisia by a Dream Team-like margin of 47 points, the members of Team USA spent a night out in London – specifically the Funky Buddha venue in Mayfair. All were donned in Nike USA gear from head to toe, with guys like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, and James Harden wearing some notable kicks; LeBron was clad in the Trainer 1 Max 360 Breathe, Melo rocked the Blazer Mid ‘USA’, KD rocked the Volt/Black Flyknit Trainers, and Harden brought some Stateside sneaker flavor by wearing the Gym Green Foamposites. More of Team USA in sneaker heat below, so take a look and stay tuned for more Team USA action tomorrow as they take on Nigeria. Photos: zimbio
