Leave it to Lil Wayne to cook up the most straightforward under-the-influence set of sneakers out there. This trio of models from him and the Supra team don’t leave much to the imagination in terms of their inspiration: the Supra S1W Lite gets a leafy green…”real tree” camo, the Supra Skytop III is dripping with purple stuff, and the Supra Vaider Lite is outfitted with a Skittles looking candy paint coat. Lil Wayne’s partnership with Supra continues to make more and more sense as the rapper continues to be seen with a skateboard by his side at all times. The collection will indeed encapsulate Weezy’s bizarreness, as exemplified by this upcoming sample spotted on a trade show floor. The upper is a neon yellow affair that features a crackle pattern that we’ve seen on a handful of Supra releases in the past. Okay, hello it’s the Martian, Space Jam Bred Jordans. Any chance Lil Wayne will be resurrecting that line to celebrate this year’s release of the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’? He definitely has his hands on the sneakers already, showing support for his friend Skylar Diggins last night at the Notre Dame/Baylor womens basketball game while rocking the upcoming Air Jordan XI. Throw blood in the air, see blood on the ground. Such is the case for Lil Wayne, whose partnership with Supra has now expanded beyond the Chimera shoe and into the Crown brand’s signature series courtesy of one Stevie Williams. The Lil Wayne x Supra S1W has a clear ‘Red Nation’ theme to its monochromatic suede and leather build, but seems to lack co-branding as Williams’ John Hancock still marks the tongue tag. Right before the MTV VMA’s went down a pretty big blow was dealt to the potential sneaker scene at the show when Kanye West decided not to show up, which frankly might have been a wise move given his previous blow ups at such events. The rest of the folks present very much held things down though, with a pretty good range amongst the sightings. Frank Ocean continued to break out the classics with a pair of the Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Supreme’ from yesteryear, Tyga showed off his upcoming Reebok collab, Lil Wayne skated in with his Supra’s, and oddball rapper Riff Raff laced up in the Nike Air Trainer Max 94. The celebrities are out and about at the Project tradeshow in Las Vegas, with various big names putting their stamp of approval on certain footwear movements. The Lil Wayne x Supra one has been bubbling for a while now but up to this point it was all talk, with actual photos of the forthcoming project keeping elusive. We’re erasing that with this, the first shots of the Lil Wayne x Supra Chimera. The early photos promise a couple red/white/black combos sort of inline with Wayne’s adopted home of Miami all on a mid-hitting silhouette. The beast of Greek mythology inspiring the model seems fitting for a Wayne creation, its fire breathing tactics in line with his approach to mixtape work.
