Lupe Fiasco has been kick-pushing since his rap career began, so him linking up with the most revered skate shoe brand out there only makes sense. The release in question is the Lupe Fiasco x Vans OTW Stovepipe, a clean black leather pair that crams in a good amount of details on the tongue and linings. The look Lupe aimed at is one from the ‘Native Tongues’ era of hip-hop, a little bit of a humorous choice given his famous A Tribe Called Quest lyric flub. The sneakers come with a crazy bag and box to complete the premium package. Getting Lupe Fiasco’s Vans OTW collaboration to retail has been a drawn out saga on the order of his own Lasers, but now we see a brand new style and release all on the same day. A few different Lupe Fiasco x Vans OTW Stovepipe hightops were shown off over a year ago along with the Bedford mids, and while these keep with the simple black leather/black sole we saw on one of those pairs, they’re far more impactful with a tribal weave on the tongue and accompanying gym bag. Lupe Fiasco is no stranger to sneaker collaborations, having dropped one of the 1Hund[RED] Chuck Taylors with Converse all the way back in 2008, moving on that same year to work with Greedy Genius before conceiving the mysterious ‘Fall of Rome’ Air Force 1 Lows with Nike Sportswear. But after that early ’09 revelation, Fiasco focused more on his music until images of his teamup with Vans OTW was revealed at Agenda last August. No stranger to collaborative records, hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco has once again teamed up with a major sneaker brand to offer a set of co-branded footwear. Fiasco’s footwear tastes are apparently a little more classically inclined than his artistic vision, as following up on his Product(RED) Chuck Taylors is a very clean collection from Vans OTW. The hightop model has a chukka-style eye-placket for a look that’s not too dissimilar from DC LIFE’s Admiral, with four new colorways of the OTW standby Bedford midtop also in tow. Kanye West, Common, and Lupe Fiasco all made an appearance at a luncheon on behalf of Kanye’s Foundation on Tuesday at Buca di Beppo Chicago. Kanye whose been seen out in the public more often as of late has also been rocking what could be his new favorite Air Jordan model, the Spiz’ike, a few weeks ago the producer/rapper was seen rocking the Fresh Since ’85 pair in Black and Cement and just yesterday he brought out a pair of the Grape colored Spiz’ikes that were released a few months ago. Kanye is the second celebrity we’ve spotted in this colorway in the past two weeks as The Game was seen wearing them just last week.
