The Made for Skate folks are getting yet another Nike SB SMU in the form of this upcoming Nike SB Dunk Mid. The pair puts on a camo colorway for the various panels on the upper, with a clean blue selected for the overlay. The strap locking the sneaker down appears to have a button snap setup, giving you a little more bang for your buck on top of the standard velcro. See the Made for Skate x Nike SB Dunk Mid mockup after the jump and watch for the pair to hit your local skateshop in October 2013.

A growing number of young ladies have co-opted the 1950′s pin-up look in recent years, so you can think of this new release from Nike SB like dressing the hottest twenty-six year-old you know up to match one of those iconic Marilyn Monroe photos. The Made for Skate x Nike SB Dunk Low Premium ‘Roller Derby’ reminds us that skateboards haven’t always been precision-crafted 7-ply slide machines. In fact, judging by their likeness on the insoles of this Skateboard Museum co-branded Dunk SB, they haven’t even always been safe to stand atop, but the fact that upon its steel rollerskate wheels sat a wooden plank is reflected by the texturized red suede underlay. A cracked white leather overlay is a nice finishing touch to this truly ‘retro’ SB Dunk, and you can see more images below in advance of the Friday, October 14th release at select skateshops including Primitive, who will have these in-store.

Take a slab of wood slightly larger than the sole of your shoe, slap some metal rollerskate wheels on it and send kids off to die without any griptape. As history has proven out, this is not the best design for a skateboard, but one of the sport’s premiere historians has also proven it can be the inspiration for a dope Quickstrike release from Nike SB. The Made for Skate x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Roller Derby’ is inspired by the primitive decks that started the skateboarding revolution, their retro style drawing praise from a variety of sneakerheads who haven’t seen many other references to what seems like a simpler time. These joints are slated to hit Nike SB retailers like Caliroots on October 15th as an in-store exclusive, so click through to see some crisp new images and avoid the inevitable rush by grabbing your pair early on eBay.

Made for Skate. It’s a brand that has a single meaning if you’re aware of the 2009 skateboarding retrospective book and exhibition by the same name, though it appears the creators themselves have realized there’s a bit of ambiguity with which they can play. Let’s take a closer look at the Made for Skate x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Rollerderby’, a collaborative design that takes its inspiration not from the period just before Nike SB existed (as in the case of the recent ‘Plum’ Dunk High SB), but from the period before real skateboards were even invented! It’s back in 1959 where you’ll find a board so primitive that it has no concavity or kicktails, not even so much as a hint of griptape, and this mid-century milestone lends its familiar style to one of the more interesting SB Dunks of 2011. The designer of the first skateboard is one of those mysteries that even the most advanced archaeologist will never solve, a piece of American history born in California to an anonymous creator that could be seen to foreshadow the sport’s DIY/indie spirit. Juergen Bluemlein and Daniel Schmid created the Made for Skate exhibition and book back in 2008 as one of the most comprehensive retrospectives on the sport/art of skateboarding along with a super-limited 24-pair run of Blazer High SBs to commemorate the occasion. Three years later, we get our first look at a model inspired by some of the earliest artifacts they unearthed, a Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Roller Derby’ inspired by the hilariously low-fucntioning boards by that same name first sold back in 1959. You can get a sense for what the creators had in mind when you examine the insoles and other images after the jump; will these go down in Swoosh Skateboarding low like the ‘Lucky’ and ‘Unlucky’ pairs that also feature toebox embroidery? via Warped.
