Last week, news broke that adidas had acquired a powerful trio of Nike designers in Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner. These names have all been instrumental in different Nike categories for the past couple of years, and their collective move has, for many, signified a possible changing of the guard as far as adidas design talent goes. Unless you pay attention to the deepest level of sneaker geekery though, you might not be aware of the projects that these three names have been involved with during their time in Beaverton, but we’re here to help with that. As mentioned before, each of the new acquisitions have pretty distinct backgrounds in terms of the categories that they worked on during their Nike tenure.

You’ve heard plenty this year about the efforts of adidas, and how that brand is “back” as a result of their ongoing moves in recruiting new talent and nailing modern designs. Much noise has already been made about the partnerships planned from the powerful trio of Kanye, Pharrel, and Nigo. The brand has had no shortage of major hits this year in terms of new footwear – the adidas ZX Flux and the various BOOST models are slowly becoming ubiquitous on the lifestyle side of things. On top of those developments, word got out today that the brand has just acquired top Nike designers Denis Dekovic, Marc Dolce, and Mark Miner, and will be opening up a new “creative design studio” in Brooklyn as the home of this new talent.

adidas has more big news for today – they’ll be setting up a new creative design studio in Brooklyn for 2015. This spot will be lead by designers Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner, who adidas just acquired from Nike. The idea here is to give the brand a “cultural contact point” where a small team of creatives will incubate ideas with the help of the aforementioned design trio. They’ve not announced a locale just yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the proximity of the Barclays Center given the brand’s Nets ties. It appears that adidas have managed another impressive move to add to their ongoing resurgence: Nike designers Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner will be working with adidas beginning in 2015. The announcement comes via the Twitter of Dekovic, and has tacitly been confirmed by various adidas PR folk on social media endorsing the message. Generally such high level designers have some non-compete clauses that force them to take a little break when making the switch to another footwear company, so we wouldn’t be surprised if these three will have some downtime between now and their future adidas employment. See Dekovic’s tweet below and let us know in the comments how you feel about these Nike designers being hired at adidas.

nike pippen 6 Nike Designer Marc Dolce Reportedly Working on Nike Pippen 6

Marc Dolce has done an impressive job at appropriately remastering the signature lines of Nike’s biggest stars in the 90s for releases today. Just looking at the success at the Air Penny V, Barkley Posite Max, and other extended signature models shows us that Dolce is the guy for the task, and it looks like he’s been tapped to revive another key sneaker line from that memorable decade. Based on this photo snapped by Scottie Pippen’s wife Larsa, Dolce is sketching out some preliminary designs for a possible Nike Pippen 6, a follow up to the Air Pippen V that last saw the light of day in 2002. While Pippen is admittedly recognized for other non-signature shoes like the Air Maestro and the Air More Uptempos, bringing back his signature shoes would definitely raise eyebrows, so stay tuned for more on this latest development and let us know what you think should be included in the Nike Pippen 6.

It’s no coincidence that Nike has had so many athlete endorsers whose popularity and selling power have transcended their respective eras. Sure, it helps that most of these names are legends in the sports world, but their ability to still move product years after their retirement is a testament to the mighty mystique of the Swoosh. Through the years, Nike has always found ways to celebrate their heritage and keep their foundational athlete roster fresh and relevant with one generation after the next.

This year’s All-Star Weekend release of the Nike Barkley Posite Max “Area 72″ was one of the highlights of February, with a special in-store release event at the Houston Galleria Mall with Nike designer Marc Dolce being a nice cherry on top. For a lucky few, Marc stuck around and autographed some of the boxes for those who copped the Area 72 releases, with some added illustrations and sketches of the shoes as well as the Raygun logo. It’s definitely a step ahead of the basic autographed shoebox, making this pair quite a rarity for an already highly-coveted shoe. Check out the photos of the autographed and illustrated box below, and if interested, check out the listing from jgskicks on eBay.
