Have you ever stopped to think about the ubiquity of Nike and Jordan Brand gear when it comes to March Madness? A little food for thought: 14 of the last 16 men’s championship teams have worn one of those two Beaverton brands head to toe, and 50 of the 64 Final Four teams from that same span have done the same. Their NCAA pedigree extends way beyond that though, all the way to the days of the Georgetown Hoyas and their special Nike Terminator High PEs, and the “Be True to Your School” series of Nike Dunk Highs. Take a look at some of Nike’s historic efforts that hit around March Madness time right after the jump, hit up Nike for the full story, and make sure you tune in to the Big Dance this year in the very likely event that a Nike school makes history once again.

When we kicked off the Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament a few weeks back, there was no way to predict who would come out on top at the end. Unlike the OG colorway Air Jordans that have firmly cemented their place in sneaker history over the years, this batch of kicks doesn’t boast quite the same level of across-the-board agreement on which are the all-time greats. While there was plenty of heat to be found, the title was certainly up for grabs by any of the 32 worthy competitors that entered the tournament. Most of the higher seeds found early success, but there were quite a few surprising upset runs as well, eventual leading to a Finals match-up of two number 2 seeds – the ‘Raging Bull’ Air Jordan V vs. the ‘DMP’ Air Jordan VI.
As with many of the match-ups, this one remained pretty close throughout the vote-off with your eventual champion finally managing to create some breathing room towards the end before locking up the title once and for all. You may not necessarily agree that the winner you crowned is in fact the greatest non-OG Air Jordan of all-time, but you have only your fellow sneakerheads to blame, as these results were determined entirely by your votes. Keep reading after the jump to find out who took the crown in our March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament and thanks to all who participated in the voting!

It’s been quite a ride since the polls for the Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament first began with the Play-In round almost one month ago. A total of forty-eight Non-OG Air Jordans were up for consideration, starting with the twenty-four Play-In round candidates and the twenty-four that already cemented their spots in the Tournament. Both the Air Jordan V ‘Raging Bull’ and Air Jordan VI ‘DMP’ took down some intense competition to earn their rightful spots in the Finals, and with almost every match-up being decided by the slimmest of margins, a multitude of alternative scenarios could have been expected. However, it’s Raging Bull V vs. Defining Moments VI that will decide the worthy sneaker that will join the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, last year’s winner of the OG Air Jordan Tournament, as the two greatest Air Jordans of this generation. Continue on for the final voting round of the Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament because we’re just one step away from crowning the greatest Non-OG Air Jordan of all-time! The polls stay open until 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday night!

In a win-or-go-home tournament set-up, a #1 seed doesn’t guarantee anything – except maybe too high of expectations. And while the four Air Jordan Retros that we appointed as #1 seeds were deserving of those distinctions, the dangers of tournament-style play have become a reality in our March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament, because in the Championship round, all four top seeds were sent packing. The Air Jordan V ‘Raging Bull’ and Air Jordan VI ‘DMP’, both #2 seeds, have reached the Finals, taking down an impressive list of opponents en route to the top of the class. Stay tuned later tonight for the Finals voting of the Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament and let us know your thoughts on the results. You can get a better look at the bracket over on Sneaker News HD before the final showdown gets underway.

The field of 32 capable contenders in our March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament has been whittled down to the Final Four, leaving the remaining competitors to fight it out to determine who is truly the best of the best with the 2012 crown still up for grabs. When weighing the popularity of OG Air Jordan models, it’s a little more clear cut which are the top dogs, but with the non-original colorways, things are fairly open to debate and personal opinions, making sure that the eventual outcome should be interesting to say the least. Now that four shoes have made it all the way through their respective regions, it’s time to see once and for all which shoe is the king of them all. As you know, the results will be in your hands, so make sure to get your votes in before Sunday night at 11:59pm EST, and check back Monday for the announcement of our Sneaker News March Madness Non-OG Air Jordan Tournament finalists!

After two weeks of voting, Sneaker News readers have deemed these eight Air Jordan Retros as the peak of the litter, but there’s still work to be done! All four number-1 seeds are still alive, but that could very much change by the end of the round because it truly is any one sneaker’s game. Which #2 seed has what it takes to take down a number 1, or will the surging momentum behind the Air Jordan V ‘Tokyo 23′ be too much for the Laney V to handle?
