Converse Pro Leather “UNC” Pack

converse pro leather michael jordan unc pack Converse Pro Leather UNC Pack

Long before the Nike and the Air Jordan, Michael was making legendary plays in the Converse Pro Leather – particularly in 1982 when he lifted the Tar Heels to an NCAA Title above the Georgetown Hoyas. Last year, Jordan Brand and Converse teamed up to create a limited edition release of the Converse Pro Leather to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of that shot, but it looks like Converse along is putting out some familiar colorways in case you don’t have the thousands to drop on those rare pairs. The Converse Pro Leather EV returns in both Hi and Lo form in a crisp white upper and Carolina blue and gold detailing, and even though there is no official UNC designation to these releases, Tar Heel pride is all that these exude. Check out the detailed gallery below and cop them directly from Converse as the High and Low are both available.

Ichiro Wears OG Carmine VI While Meeting Michael Jordan in 1995

In the 90s, it was tough to find someone who didn’t have a pair of Air Jordans on their feet at some point.; it wasn’t a ‘sneakerhead’ thing, but simply a display of reverence to the most dominate athlete in the world – period. Michael’s influence was definitely measurable on the global scale (the Air Jordan IX was a direct tribute to that), with one particular example of Jordan’s reach being this forgotten meeting between Michael and a then-unknown Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro was just 22 years old at the time and only beginning to make a name for himself in Japan (he wouldn’t reach the Major Leagues until 2001), and during this meet-and-greet, the star-struck Ichiro wore an original pair of the Air Jordan VI ‘Carmine’ – quite the impressive on-feet display considering the shoes were roughly four years old at that point.

Even Michael, who was wearing the Concord XI,¬† couldn’t help but point out Ichiro’s kicks by mentioning “Nice shoes!”. That’s right, Ichiro; before you were an MLB MVP and ROY, you were breaking Jordan’s neck with a pair of his own shoes. What did Ichiro get out of this meeting? Aside from meeting his sports idol, he managed to cop an autographed message, but more importantly, Jordan may have motivated Ichiro to become the “Jordan” of Japanese baseball and go on to have a Hall of Fame career in the Major Leagues. Check out this rare and forgotten footage and try to spot Ichiro’s OG Carmines!

50 iconic michael jordan photos 50 Iconic Michael Jordan Photos

Half a century ago, the greatest basketball player and perhaps the single most dominant athlete in his respective field was born. But it’s easy to¬†forget that this man is of man and not of god, and that his greatness wasn’t handed down to him in some ritualistic manner. He fought for his right to earn the spotlight, even when he was cut from his High School varsity basketball team, when the athletic administration called him “Mike”, and when the NBA’s stars tried to shun him out of All-Star Games. From several retirements and several comebacks to basketball in a jersey and a suit, Michael Jordan’s life has been a incomparable storybook of success, failure, blessing, tragedy, redemption, and arrogance. It’s a story so heroic that we desperately force to keep it in our memories as if these events happened yesterday, and while it’s certainly impossible to summarize Jordan’s career completely, here’s our attempt to do so in fifty iconic photos. Happy Fiftieth Birthday to Michael Jordan.
