Missoni might very well be the world’s best known manufacturer of luxury knitwear, and they’ve managed to extend their reach in recent years will well-placed collaborative releases from a variety of partners. The one that carries the most weight around these parts is the Italian fashion label’s ongoing tag team with Converse that’s produced some of the more unique looks in recent memory. The Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star will return later this year in a fairly dark construction reminiscent of the Auckland Racer we previewed not too long ago, and the absence of the Pro Leathers we showed you at the same time suggests there could be even more in store for 2012. There are plenty of anniversaries and flashbulb memories to celebrate with the London Olympic Games coming up this summer, and while most of the sneakerhead set will focus in on the recent past (perhaps most notably the 20th anniversary of the Dream Team), let’s not forget that the modern Olympiad has been around for over a century. About halfway back to the 1896 Athens Games, you’ll find that the last time the Olympics were in LDN, Ottavio Missoni debuted the original ‘Venjulia’ tracksuit on the Italian national team. Missoni met his future wife at Wembley that year, so their marriage and subsequent launch of his namesake fashion label make the tie-in with the upcoming London event all the more special. The Missoni x Converse Auckland Racer brings us closer to the current day with its unmistakable woven upper redefining this timeless running silhouette while their Horween Chromexcel Pro Leather lowtops take the ongoing collaboration in a new direction with unlimited potential. They started hitting retailers earlier this month, but the fact that last year’s pairs have doubled in price on eBay means that word of the Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars hitting additional storefronts is significant news. This whole thing started when the initial Missoni Chuck Taylors made the rounds on the high fashion blogosphere last spring, and following a couple rounds of sellouts, a recent teamup with Target sent the masses’ lust for the Italian brand’s signature weaves to an all-time high. The ‘Space Dyed’ and ‘Zig Zag’ editions are now available at Berkeley, California’s Bows & Arrows, but that’s sure to be only temporary so act fast to get yours now.

Re-selling isn’t something that only effects sneakers; one of the most notable examples of luxury goods scalping happening just weeks ago with the near-instant sellout of the Missoni for Target capsule. The idea was to bring the Italian label’s high-end look to the masses at a fraction of the typical cost, but how it actually played out was quite different. Will the latest run of Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars be treated to the same aftermarket quadrupling in price? These two new Missoni Chucks will be available at First String retailers like Hanon starting this Saturday, October 1st, and you can see more details after the jump.

Missoni’s ability to combine technical detailing with its traditional knitting patterns has always been the marquee highlight of the brand, with the signature patterns dominating the article of clothing – even one as all-American as the Converse Chuck Taylor. The Missoni x Converse partnership has been one of the more refreshing collaborations in recent memory, and thankfully it continues with this Fall/Winter 2011 release, which features a black leather toe-cap, royal blue accents on the inner lining and All-Star medallion, and the signature colder-weather Missoni print on the upper – like last year’s Winter release. Missoni already used Converse’s most popular model in a series of collaborations over the past couple years, so for their latest project, the Italian fashion house turned to a considerably more obscure silhouette. Just be honest for a second: do you own a pair of Converse Auckland Racers yet? This insane new Missoni-designed pair might change that answer to yes, this 1970s runner having never looked crazier than these two pairs in its five decades of existence. The material on these looks highly texturized, which leads us to believe they wouldn’t be all that great for actual running purposes, but for running the streets, there’s not a whole lot out there that’ll draw double-takes like these babies. Click through to see more angles and stick with Sneaker News for word on a possible retail release (though unfortunately, it seems unlikely as of this writing).
