New Balance has connected with DJ Mars and Walter’s for a special edition release of custom NB 574s inspired by the upcoming Holiday season. Designed with the Christmas-time vibes in mind, DJ Mars selected Kelly Green for the base with red, white, and black accents and suede materials to give the shoe a visual distinction like Rudolph’s bright red nose. These are expected to be an exclusive release at Walter’s this Saturday, December 1st, so check out the gallery of images below and head to Walter’s in-store or to their online shop to cop yours.

One brand proud to sell only US-made clothing once again teams up with a neighbor who’s been making sneakers in New England for over a half a century and though the result is doubly concealed in these first images, it’s safe to guess these will satisfy. At least in terms of good looks and quality, that is, because surely there are plenty of dedicated New Bal fanatics out there upset they couldn’t get a pair of the super-limited Ball and Buck x New Balance 574s. A sequel to the original grey style sticks with the 176-pair run, but this time the upper is cast in a deep green, which one might assume will be in the neighborhood of the recent hunter green 998s. B&B is taking email addresses for release info, so sign up and check back with Sneaker News for updates.

New Balance continues its ongoing partnerships with both Oshman’s Japanese branch and mita sneakers, this time shouting out a trendy Cuban cocktail whose colorway is right at home on NB’s most famous silhouette. The Oshman’s x mita sneakers x New Balance ML574 ‘Mojito’ is based on the mix of rum plus muddled lime and mint, which results in a soft green and charcoal gum-soled design that’s every bit as refreshing as its namesake poured over ice. And being that all of these colors are quite neutral, these manage to stay within the New Bal wheelhouse while simultaneously embracing colors that’ve been so hot both individually and together in recent years. December 8th marks the second Saturday of the month and this pair’s release, so have a closer look below and let us know where these rank in the steadily growing cellar of spirit-filled sneakers.

Cambridge, MA’s Concepts is in an elite class when it comes to executing top-notch collabo themes, but the latest release sorta fell in their lap. Actually, it’s more accurate to say that CNCPTS is the benefactor of a coincidence that facilitates a couple of looks New Bal fans would lust after regardless of the tie-ins. No matter the source, it is indeed dope that someone managed to figure out that hometown Harvard’s annual tilt against bitter rivals Yale would fit the school’s iconic varsity letters around a pack name that reflects the site of ‘The Game’ 2012. The Concepts x New Balance 574 “Home vs. awaY” pack could have come from MIT with pattern recognition that astute, and you can’t forget the fact that even if they had’nt been made in 55 (make that 56) and 65 pairs, respectively, these premium suede and mesh classics have the kind of no-nonsense appeal that’ll have the entire stock matriculating out of Concepts rather expeditiously.

The New Balance 574 was reinvigorated going back to school this year with the ‘Backpack’ collection and just as that theme extended to the ladies’ drops, we’re seeing a burst of new activity on the other side. This new WL574 gives us an energetic colorway with some very unique multicolor laces, its key element a pink croc heel counter that marks the first time we’ve seen such a texture on New Bals in almost three years. One of the longest-running collegiate rivalries (that, quite frankly, goes beyond sports) is between Harvard and Yale – two of the most highest-esteemed universities in the world. Every year, these two Ivy League schools meet for ‘The Game’, a tradition that goes back 129 years; Concepts, which is situated in the same locale as Harvard, created a duet of the custom New Balance 574 in commemoration of this event, colorizing the opposing pairs in Harvard and Yale attire. The ‘Home vs awaY’ Pack will be released exclusively at Concepts in-store on Saturday, November 17th, with just 65 pairs of the ‘awaY’ and 55 pairs of the ‘Home’ (the numbers chosen specifically to represent the W-L record of the schools).

The 574 is something like New Balance’s answer to Nike Sportswear’s Air Max 1, a classic runner at the foundation of the regular catalog whose impeccable lines and timeless appeal will keep them in the mix until we evolve past having feet. NSW has tinkered with the Air Max genome quite a bit in recent years, but NB tends to stay truer to their original vision. That means that on a pack like these New Balance 574 ’Gradient’ makeups, instead of a cutting-edge computer assisted fabrication, we get suede in analogous colors that each offer one delicious if tiny slice of the color wheel. Superb new blocking styles like these show that the NB574 still has so much to offer and you can decide which one looks best after seeing them individually below. They’re only available at the New Balance flagships in New York and Boston, which could make these US574s one this year’s sleeper hits for the masters of understated excellence.

New Balance made no attempt at commemorating Miguel Cabrera’s unbelievable Triple Crown season (perhaps they’re waiting for the AL MVP vote), but the brand shows it indeed has an eye for historically significance with this new style that shows some deference to their most formidable competition in the running market. The latest New Balance 574 has an undeniable ‘Infrared’ look about it thanks to the pairing of vivid red and black accents atop a grey suede and mesh base, a style not too terribly different from the Jeff Staple 575s that kicked off his ongoing New Bal partnership. We’re still waiting on Staple’s ‘Black Pigeon’ 577s (though later this month is a much more favorable prospect than death by silence), but this new ML574NRG with a Pigeon lean is yours for the taking at retailers like FinishLine.
