There a couple of groups within New Balance’s wide range of lifestyle offerings that are particularly proud of their heritage, silhouettes bearing the Made in USA or Made in the UK marking. For those that do the latter Flimby is the homebase, a spot which we’ve seen paid tribute to plenty of times before with special New Balance releases. This time around the sneaker in question isn’t a release per se but rather a specially crafted pair to celebrate NB’s 30 years of British production, the pair being a gift to New Balance owner and chairman Jim Davis. The word ‘derby’ has quite a few different meanings, but just about all of them trace their roots back to the town of Derbyshire, England.  That’s where the 12th Earl kicked off the first horse races at Epsom Downs in 1780, as well as the birthplace of the basis of the iconic blucher.  Somewhere between horse racing and footwear design is this New Balance 576 ’Derby Pack’, a trio representing ‘Fighter’, ‘Legend’ and ‘Ladies’ characters and their connections to thoroughbred racing.  Let us know which jockey’s design looks best once you’ve seen them all below and stick with Sneaker News for release info on this (presumably ‘Made in England’) spring 2013 trio.  via EUkicks

New Balance 576 “Vintage Pack”

A huge portion of New Balance Classics could be considered ‘vintage’ based on their age, but it’s exceedingly rare to see the US/UK running specialists purposely apply aged details to one of their standby models.  Whatever caused the delay seems to have been worthwhile, because these new pairs coming up for next year not only give a clear indication that this release celebrates the New Balance 576‘s 25th anniversary, but also manage to beautify the shoe in the process.  Black and grey suedes are made to look older thanks to the ‘faded’ blue-leaning meshes, and the aged heel counter to which we alluded brings the whole thing together with a warm ‘discoloration’.  New Balance has managed a new chapter in the history of VNTG sneaker releases; click through to see more of the ‘Vintage Pack’ NB576s and stick with Sneaker News for updates.  via EUkicks

The New Balance 576 is enjoying quite a year as are many NB classic runners in 2012, and this newest design capitalizes on the momentum of those earlier drops in more ways than one.  These ‘Made in England’ NB576s could have just as easily shown up in the spring trio that included black, green and navy designs all with white-on-white big-N branding, its Port Royal suede suggesting maybe they were purposely aged to improve the character.  The 576 has indeed found an ease of refinement in its near quarter-century of service, and the latest elegant effort is available now at SNS.

New Balance is known for appending acronyms to the end of their numbered releases to provide unique identifiers, and while most of those (especially the in-house designs) reflect the colors in use, a select few have extra letters to denote details about its special makeup.  That holds true for the Flimby Factory 30th Anniversary Pack, a trio of New Balance 576s crafted by longtime employees of NB’s Flimby, UK factory.  Andy Mandle chose charcoal and red with a tartan sockliner, Billy Edgar goes earthy and opts for a two-tone zig-zag on the inside and Roy Bell rounds out the group with a chilly grey and blue suede design lined with corduroy.  All of them have ’30 Years of Manufacture in the U.K. 1982-2012′ tags to drive home the theme, and you’ll find them available this August at shops like Overkill, who’re pre-selling theirs today.
