Jeff Staple is the sort of record holder when it comes to sneaker lineups, his initial ‘Pigeon’ release of old famously causing quite the commotion, including police escorts and lurking thugs, when it hit the streets of NYC. You probably don’t need to expect that sort of mayhem for the upcoming New Balance 577 ‘Black Pigeon’ produced in conjunction with Size?, but they’re definitely gonna be a tough get regardless. Fortunately Staple is raffling off a free pair, and all you’ve gotta to do enter is pick up the slick ‘Black Pigeon’ shirt from Staple. Click through for a peek at the sneakers and the shirt and enter the raffle now through Reed Space.

Followups in the wake of this summer’s tasty Farmers Market pack have been few and far between, which makes the latest New Balance 577 such a nice surprise. Featuring a blend of grey and navy that NB has mastered with countless varieties, this M577GNA makeup is roughly opposite of the 1989 original NG colorway that pops up every few years. It’s this kind of subtle precision that’s made New Balance a leader in the performance market and an icon to classic running enthusiasts, and you can see more of the latest M577s below before you pre-order from Hanon.

Jeff Staple’s contributions to the modern wave of sneakerhead culture cannot be understated, his legendary ‘Pigeon’ Dunk Low SB collaboration a watershed moment in the 21st century movement that cemented New York’s sneaker capital status and Nike SB’s street cred, and created a sense of excitement the likes of which so many designers have sought to replicate. Staple himself has revisited the Pigeon theme a number of times, including thrice now with New Balance, who’ve released different color bases on different classic running silhouettes in 2008, ’09 and now coming up in just over a week.
The Staple Design x Size? x New Balance 577 ‘Black Pigeon’ makes good on a teaser image we saw one week less than one year ago today that had until this point been without a follow-up of any kind. The color and materials appear identical after the long break, but we can see now that the tongue embroidery has been altered to reflect the version three-ness of this latest Staple New Bal collabo. A bit too “low-down and dirty” to fit in with the rest of the Pigeon clan, this delayed NB577 touches down in London to celebrate the Flimby Factory’s 30th birthday at select Size? locations in the UK and Paris, along with their e-store starting next Saturday, November 17th. Also for stateside heads they will of course be up for grabs at Staple’s own Reed Space in NYC. We’re heading into a serious heatwave on the verge of the holiday shopping season, so have a closer look below and let us know how these compare to both Staple’s earlier (NB) collaborations as well as your other rapidly approaching options.

The New Balance 577 was conceived as a slimmer followup to the ever-popular 576, but hasn’t shown up in nearly as many new colorways, especially during the second half of this year. Here’s a new one for the fall season with some serious connections to the British Isles, the Flimby-fabricated M577GGO in a northwest-leaning orange-accented green suede makeup. These have all the quality we’ve come to expect from ‘Made in England’ releases with the flavor of a delicious Irish stew, and you’ll find them available now at one of the area’s most prominent sneaker retailers, End.

It’s hard to take a look at the New Balance catalog without getting a sort of ‘homegrown’ sense out of the whole thing, what with them being the last man standing as far as big brand footwear companies still making product right here in the USA (and out in the UK as well). Coming full circle on the theme of buying local is the ‘Farmers Market’ pack consisting of two New Balance 577′s, a set of sneakers outfitted with an earthy look that probably wouldn’t be too out of place at your local gathering of that sort. Click through to check out detailed shots of both pairs and keep in mind that the New Balance 577 ‘Farmers Market’ pack is set to come to harvest on October 1st. Photos: FNG

In almost every case except sneaker-centric conventions, buying your kicks from a traveling retailer who temporarily sets up shop at an open-air market isn’t exactly the best investment you can make. On the other hand, when one thinks of the kind of goods you’ll find at modern farmer’s markets, it’s easy to see how that kind of hand-crafted artisan quality carries over into the theme of these upcoming New Balance 577s. The ‘Farmers Market’ NB577s will be cropped this fall, navy and olive waxed suede designs perfectly timed for those colder days. Have a closer look at these October 1st releases after the jump then pre-order yours from Overkill.
