The new year tradeshow season gives us another glimpse at an upcoming duo of rain resistant New Balance 577s.  This ‘Rain Mac’ Pack might be the first to explicitly feature this word we’ve come to understand as a collection of kicks centered around a theme or designer.  In this case, it’s the rain-slicking coats that are so necessary in parts of England, where the mackintosh is so popular, there’s a company whose brand name suggests they could have been a collaborator.  Stay with Sneaker News for clarification and enjoy some new images below in the meantime.

Are we looking at the low-key sneaker GOAT?  A quarter-century veteran so humble these aren’t even being pushed on the OG angle, the New Balance 577 returns again with that timeless ‘NG’ mix of navy suede and mesh plus grey leather.  These rock the single-piece two-tone side panel ‘N’ courtesy of England’s famed Flimby Factory, and we can’t help but hope that just like in 2011, this edition’s original GNA counterpart returns with the reverse colorup.  Stick with Sneaker News for updates on that, and don’t miss this classic running icon now available at Hanon.

new balance fall winter 2013 preview New Balance Fall/Winter 2013 Preview

It seems like more New Balance previews are surfacing with each passing day in 2013, and today’s helping is a smorgasbord on display at Bread and Butter Berlin.  We see both previously spotlighted models and brand new revelations in this selection, so let’s start with the ones we know by name.  Both of the raincoat-inspired New Balance 577 ‘Rain Mac’ colorways are joined by three prototypically subdued brethren, and from there it’s all new stuff.  There are several 576s on tap including a trio with tongue tags denoting their tea-infused theme, a bold ‘raging bull’ of a 998, a couple of 1300s, four 1500s and a burgundy reprisal of the 990 OG.  Stick with Sneaker News for release info on all of them and click below for a bunch more photos.

With some strong momentum after the success of Jeff Staple’s third New Balance collaboration, the 577 continues its upswing with another new colorway for 2013.  The New Balance 577 furthers the notion that there’s no limit to the capabilities of grey suede and mesh, adding a bit of burgundy leather to bring out some redness and finishing off with cobalt blue Ns and Encaps.  The season’s second Made in England makeup following this template is further depicted after the jump and adds to the forthcoming selection available for pre-order ahead of the February shipment from Inflammable.

New Balance continues to reach out to other brands known for their premium goods, extending some serious momentum accumulated over the past year-plus.  The latest proof of NB’s strength as a team player comes from an Italian menswear label whose upscale rugged character is right at home on the most angular of the 1980s New Bal runners.  The Stone Island x New Balance 577s utilize SI’s famed Raso Gommato rubberized cotton material alongside orange suede and white leather for two crisp and eye-catching designs.  These are available now at the four Stone Island flagships along with select additional retailers, and you can see both pairs in detail below.

New Balance 577 “Rain Mac” Pack

Following up on a theme explored by the 576 a couple of years back, two fresh New Balance 577 colorways have glossy elements that on most sneakers you could reasonably guess to be patent leather.  But here’s where the reference to those ‘Lake District’ 576s comes in, as this shiny stuff is revealed to be a waterproof boot and coat (as in the Mackintosh, this pack’s namesake) material the likes of which citizens of this perpetually rainy area of England are no doubt familiar.  The number of New Bals that get their shine from something other than Scotchlite are few and far between, which begs the question: are these possibly the best glossy NBs yet?  Let us know after you’ve seen more below and stick with Sneaker News for updates on what looks like a second-half 2013 release.

New Balance 577 – Tan – Burgundy – Navy

The New Balance 577 is often overshadowed by the 574 (and 576, to a lesser extent), but that’s not how 2012 ended.  Jeff Staple’s ‘Black Pigeon’ was one of the early Holiday season’s standout releases, but now that we’re firmly in the new year, let’s look forward instead of back.  The future holds a dope new 577TBN, a tan suede and mesh mix with burgundy and navy hits that keeps with the brand’s reputation for low-key colorways.  And it’s also something we’ve not seen before; further proof that there are still tons more subtle New Bals waiting in the wings and a suggestion to pre-order this one before it hits in February at stores like Hanon.
