As New Balance continues to expand its footwear offerings, we’re seeing several new hybrid designs, but you can’t go wrong with the originals. The New Balance M998BR isn’t one of the models we’ve seen ruggedized for trail use, but then again, it’s sufficiently rare that just the good ol’ 998 itself is going to cause stirs among the NB faithful. This ‘Made in USA’ edition showed up during the summer tradeshow circuit as a release expected for the first half of next year, but it looks like you won’t have to wait until 2012 to get these because NB’s fellow New Englanders Concepts in Cambridge, Mass. have just gotten a full-size run in stock.

Has there ever been a better time than right now to be a fan of New Balance’s classic running silhouettes? After several years of having been banished to the shadows surrounding New Balance’s retro running releases, the 998 returned this year with its OG colorway hitting retailers in spring. The reception was warm, but as the weather turns to cold, it’ll be interesting to see how these upcoming New Balance 998 colorways are received. On one hand, they’re not as rarefied as the OG M998GNR, and there are several other 900-series models poised to make a push in late 2011, but you simply cannot go wrong with a model like this one in a tonal suede and mesh design. Click through to see more from the black and brown pairs and stick with Sneaker News for their US release dates. via FNG

With a marked increase in the variety of classic runners offered in 2011, New Balance moves toward the end of the Mayan calendar with a very good chance to make next year its strongest on record. Standby models like the New Balance 574 and 576 are a given at this point, so it’s reassuring to see new 998s and 1500s that aren’t just teaser images from Japanese collaborations. There’s quite a lot to be happy about here for NB heads and you can see a good rundown of their entire early ’12 footwear catalog when you click through the jump below. via EUkicks

Another week of new sneaker releases are upon us, but have you kept on pace? It may be difficult (and at times, pesky) to keep up with all the fresh releases, but that’s what the Sneaker News Weekly Buyer’s Guide is here for – to give you a quick rundown of what’s fresh out of the oven. Nike SB’s June 2011 releases just became available (that ‘Send Help’ SB Dunk Mid is looking great) as did the Grey/Neon colorway of the Air Max JR. If you’re looking for Retro trainers, this week brought in a new colorway of the Air Trainer SC II High and an OG colorway of the Air Trainer Max2 ’94. We’ve also got a quick preview of what’s hitting stores this weekend, so check out this week’s Buyer’s Guide and let us know what you’ll be copping!
