With most New Balance releases, the letters preceding the numbers designate whether it’s a men’s or women’s drop. There are notable exceptions like MT signifying trail and H denoting hiking styles. In the case of the New Balance Numeric CT891, the characters in question stand for ‘Court’, as in a classic cupsoled lowtop appropriated for skateboarding use. The CT891 features a REVlite insole for a build similar to Nike SB’s LunarLon-cushioned offerings, and four basic suede colorways are arriving now at select retailers worldwide.

As promised New Balance has elbowed its way into the skateboard sneaker world, with the New Balance CT891 being their apparent first entry. Strangely enough the sneakers don’t bear any marks of the New Balance ‘Numeric’ sub-category that they were allegedly designated for. The packaging promises that they are indeed intended for wood pushers though, with the sneakers coming in a commemorative wood box adorned with various stickers.
