Taking its name from the side of Manhattan’s 72nd Street where you’ll find sneakers ranging from Nike Sportswear mainstays (and even the Air Yeezy 2) to rare New Balance specialties, West NYC has made its name among the New York sneakerhead scene. Now they get a chance to reach out to the world at large with a collaboration on the same silhouette that made household names out of brands ranging from Detroit’s Burn Rubber to Japan’s HECTIC. The West x New Balance MT580 should be an interesting flavor with a chocolate mint chip colorup plus purple and pink branding, but you’ll have to check back with Sneaker News to see the full design once it’s revealed. Let us know what you think of the color scheme and check back for more details including the release date.

We already gave you a breakdown on the inspiration for Burn Rubber’s second go-round with New Balance, a two part pack that pays homage to the 9-5′ers that make Detroit tick. Delving deeper into the background of the two pairs of New Balance MT580′s is this video spot, which follows two characters on their way two work, members of the White Collar and Blue Collar, respectively. The parallel release dates (February 1st for the ‘Blue Collar’ and March 1st for the ‘White Collar) extend the metaphor a bit further, hitting on the first of the month-the day when the workforce is united in collective check-cashing. This sort of regional tribute has done wonders for New Balance in the past (think the Kennedy’s), so will Burn Rubber strike gold again? Let us know if you’re feeling these and be sure to check the video after the jump.

Detroit’s Burn Rubber stole the New Balance spotlight last year, becoming one of the brand’s best received collaborators and securing a lofty spot in the Sneaker News Top 30 of 2010. Store owner Rick Owens showed off his extensive NB collection over the summer, but in terms of a follow-up to last year’s superb MT580s, all we got was a pixelated teaser shot. Seems like the photo was a bit misleading, because while the dark silhouette being hidden is clearly one of these upcoming Burn Rubber x New Balance MT580s, there are actually two pairs involved here. One comes in navy blue with grey and golden accents to represent ‘blue collar’ while the black pair adds a soft beige and suggests a ‘white collar’ feel. The Workforce Pack could have exploited the 99/1 meme that’s been so prominent in the public discourse this fall, but it skips the fighting and brings together these two ‘classes’ in perfect harmony. Will you occupy the Burn Rubber x New Balance ‘Workforce Pack’ when they release next year? New images of both pairs might aide in your decision, and be sure to check back with Sneaker News for the US release date. via HS
