The land of the rising sun is already privy to these sneakers of the setting sun. That’s right, the Nike Air Max EM “Sunset Pack” is already starting to show up at overseas retailers like Nike Harajuku in Japan. The group consists of the Nike Air Max 1 EM, Nike Air Max 90 EM, Nike Air 180 EM, Nike Air Max 95 EM, and the Nike Air Max 97 EM. If you’re keeping track, that’s a decade of Air Max classics reworked with the Engineered Mesh touch and this burning bright colorway. A gang of Nike Air Max styles will wash up on the Beaches of Rio tomorrow, May 18th. Fortunately enough, the whole range of the sneakers will also be be arriving at a handful of Nike Sportswear accounts across the US. The group includes five separate styles, three of which are pictured here. Those three consist of the the Nike Air Max 1 EM, the Nike Air Max 90 EM, and the Nike Air Max 95 EM-all of which don some pretty colorful looks that link them up with the Rio locale. Check out the handful that will be available at Sneaker Politics tomorrow and keep in mind that there are two more on top of those that may or may not pop up at your local shop.

On May 23rd, Nike Sportswear will embark on the “Air Max Hunt” in New York City and San Francisco with the help of Nike athletes Amare Stoudemire and Colin Kaepernick. Throughout that day, Amare and Colin will drop five hints each throughout the day on their respective Twitter and Instagram pages, providing clues to direct participants to secret areas to win one of the limited-edition Nike Air Max EM “Sunset Pack” units seen here. We’re gonna go ahead and call the Nike Air Max “Beaches of Rio” set the unofficial fourth entry in Nike’s “Home Turf” series. Landing far from the European spots like Milan, London, and Paris, the five sneakers instead wash up on the beaches of Rio De Janeiro. The Nike Air 180 EM just might be the underdog style of the bunch seeing as how it’s pitted here against relative giants like the 1, 90, 95, and 97 all with the EM treatment. It also might be the darkest pair of the group what with that deep laser purple across the upper. Next month, Nike Sportswear will unleash the Nike Air Max EM “Beaches of Rio” Pack, featuring the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, Air Max 97, and Air 180 in vivid and vibrant colorways inspired by the sights of the legendary beach scene in Rio. Rising along with the rest of its bubble-bottom colleagues in the Nike Air Max EM “Sunrise Pack” is this Nike Air 180 EM style. Is it the single sneaker from the pack that will fly the furthest under the radar? There’s no doubt that the yearly designated pairs hold a bit more weight with collectors, but you have to consider that the Nike Air 180 has seen a little bit of an upgrade in interest thanks to the pending retro with the OG touch. It seems like the pattern as far as Nike Air Max retros this year is to hit up both ends of the spectrum by trotting out a vintage look alongside a futuristic EM style. The Nike Air 180 is no different, as the classic ‘Ultramarine’ colorway gets the Engineered Mesh treatment here. What’s more the sneaker is actually in stores now, popping up as sort of a surprise after we’d not heard anything on the style since the top of 2013. The EM treatment of original Air Maxes won’t stop at the Big Four (1, 90, 95, and 97) as we get a look at some upcoming colorways of the Nike Air 180 EM. Alongside the original ‘Ultramarine’ colorway (which is also returning in ‘OG’ form), we’ll also be hit with the ‘Sunrise’ colorway as well as a third ACG/Mowabb-esque colorway of royal, purple, black, and orange with a speckled midsole. 2013 is looking to be an amazing year for NSW Air Max fans, so peep the single profile shots below and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more updates.
