Nike Brings Back the Air Command Force

nike command force retro 2014 Nike Brings Back the Air Command Force

Let’s be honest here – this is the early-90′s Force shoe that Nike fanatics have been waiting for. The Air Command Force, David Robinson’s signature shoe, was one of Nike’s earliest and last ventures into the “air pump” trend of sneakers that signified Reebok’s entire 90′s catalog of shoes. It’s arguable that Nike did it best with this super-high top sneaker, although recent Retro releases suggested that if a Command Force would ever happen, it would come without the gimmicky pump. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with this upcoming Retro release, because the Air Command Force Retro will in fact feature the original build, although the add-ons could be entirely cosmetic. Check back with us soon for more on this Air Command Force bringback and let us know if you plan on picking these up.

The Nike Air Command Force is coming back in 2014. That’s right, that shoe that is so symbolic of the height of chunky 1990s basketball models, that pair that you lusted over after seeing them in White Men Can’t Jump, is going to be back on retail shelves. Gathered here are the first couple of images for the presumably pumpless re-issue, with the black/tink/peal amongst them apparently meant as a take on David Robinson’s native Spurs colors. Continue reading for your first peek at them and then compare them to these OG Nike Air Command Forces to see what changes were made.

nike air command force mc fly customs Nike Air Command Force McFly Customs by Peculiar Kinetics

Even before the Nike MAG 2011 officially released it was a popular choice for custom palettes, and the eventual charity roll-out in September of 2011 only wedged the sneaker further into the imagination of creators worldwide. The latest guy to grab at them is Peculiar Kinetics, who has reworked the similarly tall Nike Air Command Force into a steely grey look complete with the necessary LED package, and with the help of Revive Customs (providing the sole-swap work) and Evolved Footwear (for giving these the pristine light-up glow), the ‘McFly’ identity is undeniably grasped. Stay with us to see the full treatment on this Nike Air Command Force (hoverboard not included) and drop your thoughts on the sneaker in the comments section below.

Air Jordan IV “Command Force” Customs by Emmanuelabor

The “A meets B” trend of custom sneakers shines through once again as Emmanuelabor hits us with this amazing Air Jordan IV inspired by the Air Command Force. He adopts the unique colorway by adding the bright Volt hints on the midsole and plastic wing, but the impressive detail is undoubtedly the pump module embedded into the tongue (a cosmetic upgrade) and the ribbed plastic piece that replaced the upper netting. It seems like a pretty nice hybrid considering the IV and the Command Force share some similar details as they sorta fall in the same era of Nike Basketball, but how’s the execution? Peep the gallery below and let us know what you think.

Nike Air Command Force – White – Black – Bright Green | OG Pair on eBay

The Nike Retro roll-out for 2012 has provided a nice breather for the vintage sneaker hunters out there, with various 90′s classics either confirmed for a release or already having hit retailers. But pre-dating the Air Diamond Turf II and Air Speed Turf Max is one of the most beloved Nike Basketball sneakers of all-time – the Nike Air Command Force of 1991. With the aggressive high-top design, pump module on the heel, intimidating nomenclature, and one of sickest midsoles to ever grace a sneaker, the Command Force represents the end of the design spectrum that defies convention and leaves the viewing public in utter awe.

While the OG Command Force won’t make a return this year (and likely won’t in its original state), Nike Retro fans will be treated with a high-top variation of the Command Force’s cousin – the Air Force 180 High. It’s not often that we get to see a pair of Command Forces in deadstock condition, so bask in the beauty of the Command Force in this rarely-seen White/Black-Bright Green colorway below. If you’d rather stay true to the originals, you’re in luck; this size 10.5 deadstock pair just popped up for sale from pinkauctions on eBay.
