There couldn’t be a more appropriate Nike Running model to test out this sick Steve Prefontaine Running Man logo. Nike historians know just how critical Steve Prefontaine is to the genesis of the Nike brand, and although he life was cut short, he’s paved the way for the world’s greatest athletes to align with Nike over the next four decades. This rare 2005 sample features the Nike Air Epic with the signature Nike-style embroidered silhouette logo on the heel, showing Prefontaine doing what he did best, and although these never did release, they may have been produced as a special promo to mark the 30th Anniversary of Prefontaine’s death (Nike also released a Prefontaine commercial that year as well). Definitely a gem of a find for Nike fans, so take a look and see the full listing from rkd4life on eBay.

Following up on solid offerings from last year’s fall and winter seasons, the Nike Air Epic returns once again with VNTG treatment for the first quarter of 2013. Cast in an appealing mix of Sport Grey, Obsidian and Team Orange, the pre-yellowed midsole and roughed-up suede on these gives the appearance that they’ve been around since Jim Boeheim had double-digit wins. The latest example of that ‘New York’ look blessing a new sneaker with its unique compliment, the latest Vintage Air Epics are available for pre-order with a shipment around the time Mets spring training starts at Titolo.

Nike Sportswear continues to hit us with legendary classic silhouettes, this particular pair carrying evidence of its status right in the official name. The Nike Air Epic shows off another Vintage series colorway, pairing a pre-yellowed midsole with the black suede/mesh upper and its white and green accents. Along with the pairs we saw at Nike Harajuku last week, this brings the total of HO12 VNTG Air Epics to six; how does this style compare to that monochromatic quintet? Sneaker News will keep you posted on US release info for all of them, and in the meantime you can see more photos of this pair after the jump.

Nike Sportswear reintroduced the Air Epic in Vintage form with a couple of Quickstrikes earlier this year. This latest pack offers not only a wider availability but also almost three times as many colorway options, as the Nike Air Epic VNTG returns with a quintet of styles for the holiday season. Two of them are red, two are blue and one purple style splits the difference, and all are available now at Nike Harajuku. Stick with Sneaker News for word on a US release and check out photos of each pair below in the meantime.

New Balance is the brand most strongly associated with grey and navy blue suede and mesh retro running designs, but if you consider the vast Nike Sportswear catalog, it makes sense that many of these styles would also flourish under such traditionally elegant conditions. NSW brings forth a new collection featuring eight different styles split into two sets of four silos, as the Nike Air Safari continues its 25th anniversary alongside Air Max 90s, Air Epics and Free Powerlines+es in grey and navy as part of the appropriately frilllessly-named capsule. NSW nails the NB steez with a solid variety of kicks and complimenting apparel, and the grey joints will drop this Friday, September 28th, followed by the blues one week later on October 5th.

Sure they don’t have bubbly soles for you to bounce around on, but that doesn’t make these classic Nike Air equipped models any less deserving of your attention. What the two Nike Air Epic colorways in store for July 2012 do have however is a beautifully straightforward suede and mesh construction, a simplistic callback to the days before we got caught up in all types of Hyperfuse and computer chips in our sneakers. Furthering the nostalgic status is the oft-debated vintage treatment, a touch most evident on the yellowed bits striping the midsoles. Stay with us after the jump to take a look at the two Nike Air Epic VNTG offerings in line for the summer and preorder either from Titolo now.

Once a fairly obscure word reserved for high school english classes, ‘epic’ has in recent years risen to the heights of internet overuse as fellow standouts ‘extreme’, ‘sick’ and ‘fail’. This appropriated usage dilutes the word’s true power, as it was intended to signify something truly heroic and rare, yet its shifting parlance manages to reflect a side of the above classic runner’s core identity as pictured. The Nike Air Epic Vintage Quickstrike brings back a model that most sneakerheads wouldn’t be able to pick out of a lineup (or remember the 2004-05 retros) and applies some serious pre-yellowing to make the sole look like it’s been sitting in storage since these first dropped back in 1985. Check out the blue and grey colorups in greater detail after the jump below and get ready for these to hit US Nike Sportswear retailers shortly because mita sneakers is set to ship theirs on Saturday.
