While the Nike Zoom Rookie has gotten a lot of attention from Beaverton this year in terms of the amount of colorways released the Nike Air Flight One, which that hybrid owes quite a bit to , has been kept pretty quiet in comparison. Finally offering up a little more heat is this pair, the no frills black and white that MJ famously wore back in the day. Click through with us to check out this pair of the Nike Air Flight One and if you’re after them keep in mind that the team at Oneness already has their pairs.

Jordan Brand has been very focused on the story telling thing this year, dropping a good number of retros that call back to a specific moment in Michael Jordan’s career. And while Jordan Brand obviously isn’t behind this one you can sort of consider it in the same ilk, an OG Nike Air Flight One colorway that Mike himself wore as a ‘Concord’ alternate back in the 1995 NBA Playoffs. Click through with us for the latest look at this clean Nike Air Flight One in black and white, a retro that will pop up at select accounts like Rock City Kicks a couple weeks from now on Wednesday, October 3rd.

A little history for ya: this colorway of the Nike Air Flight One was one of the sneaker models worn by Penny Hardaway during his first two seasons of his NBA career before he embarked upon the Nike Air Penny signature line, but some may associate this Air Flight One (this exact colorway, to be more precise) to Michael Jordan. Why? During a game in the Second Round of the 1995 NBA Playoffs, Michael Jordan, who rocked the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’, was forced by the NBA brass to switch to an all-black shoe in accordance with league uniform rules. He didn’t have a pair of the Space Jams handy, so for one game, he had no choice but to borrow a pair from Penny’s closet and wear the Nike Air Flight One in the same colorway (we have a picture for you below).
Of course, one of Michael’s trademark characteristics is is homicidal competitiveness, so he went as far as chopping off the ’1′ heel-tab of the borrowed pair. With the Air Flight One returning earlier this year, that story of MJ rocking the Flight One rushed back into our memories, and we’ll be able to re-live them this October as they are slated for a drop. A full shot as well as some classic in-game shots of MJ and Penny wearing this colorway of the Flight One below, so take a look and let us know what you think. Photos: ix_eleven

While Penny Hardaway never played for the Chicago Bulls and his tenure with the Miami Heat lasted just a handful of games, we saw some great Retro colorway releases from the Air Penny line, like the Air Max Penny 1 that came out in a ‘Bulls’ get-up and the Air Penny II in the ‘Miami’ colorway. Here we have another Retro colorway of an Air Penny shoe that falls somewhere in the lineage of Black/Red releases – this White/Black/Wolf Grey/Red colorway of the Nike Air Flight One. You can expect this to hit NSW retailers this Holiday 2012 season with a MSRP of $120 alongside several other Air Flight One colorways already previewed on Sneaker News. Photo: TSG

Looks like we’ve got a tight battle for best kicks of the last two nights! Monta Ellis went on repeat mode, but kept it fiery with the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’, but up-and-comer Delonte West caught our attention by wearing the Nike Air Flight One in the ‘Orlando’ colorway. Kendrick Perkins’ Air Jordan X ‘Chicago’ deserves some attention, as does Gilbert Arenas’ back-to-back Air Jordan showing of the Old Royal X and the Air Jordan IX ‘For The Love Of The Game’. A blue-based jersey seems to follow Gilbert wherever he lands, but that’s only good news because we know what he’s capable of putting out when rocking those colors! Check out the best sneakers from the last two nights and let us know who takes the cake! via espn

The Nike Air Flight One returned to the spotlight in Orlando during the NBA All-Star aka ‘Galaxy’ weekend, and while the original colorway named after its hometown exposed the younger generation to a nearly forgotten cult favorite, it’d take a serious sneakerhead to call out all the other OGs for this model. One of those was a mostly-white royal-accented editon that came towards the end of this model’s first run in 1995, a colorway we see reworked with a splashier approach above. And while we can’t expect to see these hit retail with Penny Hardaway‘s signature as on the toe of this pair you’ll see after the jump, they do indeed seem poised to introduce a new blocking pattern for this model. But given the recent popularity of classics with that same antique varsity simplicity of late, would you have rather seen this pair or its black or red brethren released in the original form? Let us know when you click through for more images and stick with Sneaker News for release info.
