The Galaxy Foamposite first made headlines back in October when catalog renderings of a Air Foamposite Pro first surfaced. During a Nike event out in Las Vegas not much later, Gentry Humphrey was spotted wearing the infamous Foamposites on his feet, but it was later confirmed that the version he was wearing was a sample and would not release. It clearly it has more of a rainbow effect that the darker ones that did in fact release, but according to Morgan Barnes, the colorist of the notorious Galaxy Foamposite, noted that the sample version wasn’t as “dramatic” as he had intended, and arrived at the dark purple tone after infusing Blue and Red in the traditional East vs. West match-up of the NBA All-Star Game while adding the Glow-In-The-Dark outsole. Regardless of the results, we’re certain the Sample version would have been as popular as the released version, but here’s a detailed look at the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ Sample that never hit stores and let us know which of the versions you like better. via SoleCollector

Foamsanity Hits Orlando

foamsanity hits orlando 1 Foamsanity Hits Orlando

Everyone knew that the jawdropping Galaxy edition of the Nike Air Foamposite One would cause release hysteria. After being pulled from the NikeStore release roster earlier this week, the only chance of getting a pair was to get out there and take your chances at one of the select few retailer spots that would be carrying them. In NYC, scores of determined sneakerheads camped outside of stores in sleeping bags and lawn chairs for over a week to improve their Galaxy prospects. It was clear that this would be a blockbuster of a release, with the limited nature of the shoe, the current unquenchable thirst for Foamposites and of course the wild galactic theme, but the scene down at the Florida Mall in Orlando tonight just raised lowered the bar for sneaker release mayhem. From early reports from DJ Clark Kent and others on the scene, over 3,000 people showed up with the crowd getting so out of control that even the small army of cops in riot gear couldn’t handle the charging crowd trying to inch their way closer to their pair of Galaxy Foams, and there have even been reports of shots being fired. Around 10:30pm, well before the intended midnight release, police shut down the mall and sent the unruly mob home with no sneakers.

No word yet on how a rescheduled release will play out down in Orlando, but we’re sure we’ll hear plenty more stories from the Galaxy releases around the country by morning. We know that it’s easier said than done, but just maybe, it might be time for these retailers to start looking into putting some better systems in place to avoid these kinds of unfortunate situations. Or maybe Nike can just stop putting out shoes that people want so badly. Lets hope it’s the former and not the latter, but let us know what you think should be done to remedy the issue and stay tuned for more on the Galaxy Foamposite release saga.

It’s hard to think back to a sneaker release that had such a panicky effect like the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’. ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ seems to have stricken a large number of sneakerheads today as campouts have been reported to appear as early as Saturday, and a flash wrist-brand release by 21 Mercer have people dumbfounded. News of Nikestore’s cancellation of the release drew some disappointment and ire from those who were hoping to luck out with the midnight release. Some went as far as offering up a car for the shoes – a ’96 sedan in good condition for a pair of shoes that retail for $220. Tomorrow marks what will go down as one of the craziest sneaker releases of all-time as the Galaxy Foamposites officially go up for sale at select Nike Sportswear retailers; if you’re sitting at home right now, chances are you’ve somehow secured your pair, or you’ve given up already. In any case, we hope everyone is out there safe and secure, so best of luck to all and if you’re ready to pony up the big dollars, grab one of the available pairs online like these from yellownsxt on eBay.

Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ – Nikestore Release Cancelled

February 22nd, 2012 by | 103 comments

nike air foamposite one galaxy on feet 2 Nike Air Foamposite One Galaxy Nikestore Release Cancelled

With the upcoming release of the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ stirring up a level of hysteria not experienced in quite a while, many sneakerheads have embarked on a week-long camping trip in front of House of Hoops locations nationwide. 21 Mercer, which is confirmed for a release this Friday, avoided the release night eve fiasco by handing out wristbands on Monday, attracting a mass crowd within minutes of publicizing the info on Twitter. Many sneakerheads, however, could not bear the campouts or crowds and relied on luck when the Galaxy was to hit Nikestore, but here’s the bad news; Nikestore has confirmed via Twitter that they will not release the Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ online. Are they making this an in-store release, allotting stock to other locations, or trying to avoid another episode of midnight-release madness (see: Air Jordan IV ‘White/Cement’)? With Nikestore out of the running (House of Hoops locations and other select Nike Sportswear accounts will receive them), it’s time for y’all to start preparing soon, because this just might be the most chaotic release of the year.
