The latest revelation from Nike’s upcoming Black History Month 2013 spread is a model that also made its mark on the Year of the Snake collection. The Nike Air Force 1 Downtown ’BHM’ follows up on the luxurious ‘Python’ makeup with a rich Hazelnut leather build accented by tonal pony hair Swooshes and Total Orange accents including the intricately patterned tongue tags and heel tabs. Japanese golfer Ryo Ishikawa has quite a career ahead of him. At the age of just 21 he’s already earned a spot on the 2013 PGA Tour, his rising star certainly recognized by Nike in the form of this Nike Air Force 1 Downtown collab. On bottom the sneaker features a cloudy green treatment and on top its a crispy white leather with a few studs hitting towards the center of the Swoosh. The pair, which riffs off Ryo Ishikawa’s personal flair, will be hitting just before Christmas with a December 24th release date attached. One of the more casual members of the new Nike Air Force 1 family is the Nike Air Force 1 Downtown, a design that’s pictured here in particularly luxurious python mode. There are various snakeskin pairs of the Nike Air Force 1 proper that have long enjoyed lauded status, so it seems appropriate that this style would get things going with such a tried and true look. The Nike Air Force 1 is evolving – doing a bit of “growing up” in this 30th anniversary year. The evolution is set to take place across a number of models, from the Nike Air Force 1 Downtown to the Nike Lunar Force 1 Fuse, with each offering a new entry into the family of this classic basketball shoe. To celebrate this evolution and get folks oriented towards this “Future of Force”, Nike Sportswear brought out a select group of media outlets covering sneakers, urban culture, and everything in between to an event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Sneaker News was of course in attendance, bringing you a behind the scenes look here of everything from Deron Williams’ quick appearance to the awesome Pivot Point buildout.

The “White-on-White” Air Force 1 has been doing its down for three decades, and even in today’s sneaker horizon where crazy materials and colors are ‘in’, the classic White continues to be one of the top sellers every year. As if that level of dominance wasn’t enough to lock down the Sportswear scene, Nike’s ready to expand the ‘Family of Force’ by introducing five models to the Air Force 1 lineage; the Lunar Force 1, AF1 Foamposite, AF1 Boot, AF1 Downtown, and AF1 Comfort now joints the classic Air Force 1 in the “Family of Force”, and this Saturday, the entire clan will become available at retailers in a wondrous library of colorways (the Lunar Force 1 drops this Wednesday). It’s set to play a major role in the year-ending AF1 XXX Anniversary Holiday Collection, and now Nike Sportswear rolls out another wild animal style for the Nike Air Force 1 Downtown. A decidedly different approach and less astrologically topical than the Year of the Snake foreshadowing ‘Python’ edition, this new zebra-striped Air Force 1 Downtown brings to mind images of one of Liam Sean Martin’s many memorable SB Dunk colorways in 2005′s ‘Purple Avenger’. Zebra makes for a trendy answer to that pair’s distinctive stripes and the patent leather overlays keep an upscale vibe in tact; now that Supreme has crossed over into Nike Sportswear, might we see more new styles with links to the Nike Skateboarding heritage (remember, the super-rare Dunk Force 1 SB hybrid was the initial spark of this sole-revising trend)?
