pigalle nike air force 1 ppp 2 Pigalle x Nike PPP Collection

The Pigalle x Nike relationship is one that’s a decade deep, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see that the French PPP crew (Pain O ChoKolat, PIGALLE Paris, Pompon) has been given their own set of sneakers. Selected for the set are the Nike Air Force 1 Low and Nike Air Force 1 High, both of which are given rugged, worn looks made to represent the sort of wear and tear that streetball will put on a pair. The collection runs deeper than that though – there are also shorts, tank tops, a hat, and a basketball to go with. Stay with us after the break for this first detailed look at the upcoming PPP capsule from Pigalle and Nike and watch for the apparel, accessories, and Air Forces to release on April 26th at select Nike retail destinations and global partners.

Earlier this year, Sneaker News examined the history of Nike Chinese New Year sneakers, noting that the first ‘Year of the . . . ‘ drop came with the first Horse Air Force 1s in 2002. This was the start of a movement we’ve seen thoroughly fleshed out in recent years, whereby annual holidays serve as inspiration for limited edition sneakers. It took a little while to get the ball rolling on these annual traditions, and about three years after the first YOTH drops, Nike turned to another holiday that’s rich in colorful inspiration.

Nike released its first Easter-inspired colorway in 2005, and in the years since, we’ve seen both an increase in activity from both the Swoosh and their rivals. And with another set of Nike Basketball signatures dropping on Good Friday, the time is right to go back and look over some of the highlights of the past decade. So join us, as we hunt down some of history’s best Easter kicks in tonight’s edition of Sneaker News NINE@NINE:

There’s more than just a Pigalle x Nike Air Force 1 coming as part of that upcoming collection. There are actually two Air Force 1s, both a High and a Low, along with a dual branded basketball, a hat, and some sort of dip dyed jersey/short sets. The sneakers from the group feature muted color schemes with tones that have been rubbed off for further depth, not unlike that found on the upcoming Lance Mountain x Nike SB Air Jordan 1s. nike air force 1 low gradient swoosh yellow purple 04 570x412 Nike Air Force 1 Low Gradient Swoosh

Gradient Swoosh styles of the Nike Air Force 1 have been around for a while now, and certain among them definitely rank pretty highly in terms of coveted Uptowns (We’ll cite the “Taiwan” as the pinnacle of that styling). That approach will see a small reprisal via pairs like this, which actually have a little bit more going on that just the unique Swoosh. If you look closely, you’ll also spot some faux lizard skin styling that’s got an almost Jordan 2 vibe to it. See more angles on them after the break and watch for this Nike Air Force 1 Low to hit soon at accounts like Oneness.

white on white air force 1s spring 2014 1 Nike Air Force 1 White on Whites for Spring 2014

There was a time when the Nike Air Force 1 Low in white on white was considered a must have for the rotation of any footwear enthusiast. They’re still a must for many, but some of the higher styles have sort of taken over in recent years thanks to their constant on-feet status for taste makers like Harlem’s A$AP Mob and Kanye associated Virgil Abloh. They rotate in and out of sneaker shelves on a sort of seasonal basis, but you can pick up the full trio featuring the Air Force 1 Low ($90), Air Force 1 Mid ($95), and Air Force 1 High ($100) right now at spots like West NYC. Take a look after the click and then let us know in the comments if you’re grabbing a crisp pair for Spring.
