Nike Basketball 1992-2012: Twenty Designs That Changed The Game

July 20th, 2012 by | 5 comments

nike baskeball twenty designs that changed the game Nike Basketball 1992 2012: Twenty Designs That Changed The Game

Nike Basketball has been playing around with a game of one-upsmanship with itself over the last two decades, redefining the perfect basketball shoe with heroic innovations and audacious designs. It’s been an entertaining and lengthy tale of Nike outdoing Nike, and from 1992 with the original 180-degree Air Unit to 2012′s revolutionary Nike Hyperdunk Sport Pack, Nike has served up twenty iconic basketball models that changed the game and rerouted the future paths of all that encapsulated basketball footwear. With 2012 serving as the 20th Anniversary of the original USA Olympic Dream Team, Nike has plans of celebrating the last two decades by re-telling twenty scintillating stories of Nike Basketball; you may not realize that Nike already began this crusade with the celebrated releases of the Nike Air Force 180, Air More Uptempo, Shox BB4, and Huarache 2K4, but prepare yourself for a history lesson that no brand has ever attempted before.

Beginning this Monday, July 23rd, Nike Basketball will reintroduce one iconic model a day up until the 2012 Olympic Basketball Semi-Finals on August 11th. You heard that correctly; twenty game-changing and court-busting models will see the spotlight again, like Aaron Cooper’s Nike Air Zoom Ultraflight of 2003, a supremely light-weight shoe that featured a unique clear outer shell and a synthetic stretch leather, and 2006′s Air Max 360 BB, which served as a precursor to the full-length Max Air unit seen on several top-shelf Basketball sneakers (LeBrons, for example) of the last few years. This is just a small helping of what’s to come, and our recap of the Nike Basketball Showcase from the World Basketball Festival may give you some hints at what may potentially arise, so stay tuned to Sneaker News for all the updates of this incredible recital of Nike Basketball heritage and get the discussion going on this amazing development by letting us know what classic models of the last 20 years you’d love to see.

Nike Basketball Retro “Black/Volt” Pack – Arriving at Retailers

July 16th, 2012 by | No comments

nike retro basketball black volt pack arriving at retailers Nike Basketball Retro Black/Volt Pack Arriving at Retailers

A little over a week ago, the Nike Sportswear ‘Dream Team’ Pack released after most stores missed the originally publicized July 1st drop date. That quartet of classic basketball silhouettes celebrates USA Basketball’s dominance with colorways like the ones you’ll see on display in London in a short while, its counterpart opting for an equally summer-friendly but altogether different appearance. The ‘Black Volt’ pack‘s approach is most apparent on the nearly all-neon Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4, though there’s no mistaking the black nubuck that makes up the majority of the Shox BB4, Air Force 180 and Air Force 1 High for a USAB style. Finshing the set is the Air More Uptempo that had previously been slated for a House of Hoops exclusive, but you’ll find all five of these available now at select NSW stockists on the revised July 21st release date.  via ITSB

Classics Revisited: Nike “Clerks” Pack (2005-2006)

nike clerks pack Classics Revisited: Nike Clerks Pack (2005 2006)

Over the last several weeks, Sneaker News has covered a nice variety (albeit a small chunk of the massive library of sneakers) of notable releases from the last decade for Classics Revisited consisting of Air Max collaborations, early-era Foamposites, and even Air Jordan Lows. Each of the aforementioned carry some heavy weight, but special attention must be given to one particular piece of verbage that continues to be used today – the sneaker ‘Pack’. What a ‘Pack’ annotates is either an official or un-official gathering of sneakers that fall under on specific sub-category – the recent ‘Home Run Derby’ Pack of the Nomo and two Griffeys being a prime example. Beginning in 2005, Nike teamed up with a number of notable sneaker retailers for the ‘Clerks’ Pack, which involved a veritable list of reputable shops like UNDFTD, Stussy, Huf, and Size? over the span of one year. Three major cities were targeted for the Clerks Pack, beginning with Los Angeles in 2005, and followed by London and San Francisco in 2006.

The first leg of the Clerks Pack begin in Los Angeles with Stussy (Blazer Mid ’73), Union (Air Force 180), and UNDFTD (Dunk High NL) and released in 2005; of the three, the Air Force 180 is certainly the attention-grabber of the bunch, with the high-rise silhouette given an astounding visual punch with safari print, a gradient white/pink midsole, and the color-blotted spots on the ankle collar and insole. The Clerks Pack continued in London (April 2006) with three Air Max silhouettes (Air Max 90, Air Stab, and Air Classic BW) with the Air Max 90, inspired by the scenic colors of Brighton Beach, being the most coveted of the three, and finally in San Francisco (July 2006) with NORT (Dunk High), Huf (Air Max 90), and True (Air Humara). If anyone has all nine of the original Clerks Pack to call their own, many kudos for owning one of the most memorable ‘Pack’ releases in Nike history!
