Who knew that Charles Barkley would have such a huge impact in this year’s Nike All-Star Pack? The Sportswear Collection features two models bearing his name, with the Nike Air Force Max making a sudden appearance after serving as the pacemaker for the entire CB line for the last two decades. Sir Charles did end his career in Houston (where the 2013 All-Star festivities will be held), but his sneakers have busted through the gates and dominated the NSW Collection of All-Star footwear with this eccentric design of the Nike Air Force Max. Complete with a mix of Galaxy detailing, glow-in-the-dark, reflective uppers, and Raygun detailing, the Air Force Max ‘All-Star’ will be much like last year’s Air Flight One ‘Galaxy’ – but will it be as popular? Look out for this incredible new Nike Air Force Max as well as the entire Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Collection at select retailers on February 14th.

The bar was set incredibly high (so high it reached outer space) with last year’s Nike Basketball’s 2012 All-Star Pack, but aside from the trio of Basketball signatures, NSW models like the Dunk, Air Foamposite One, and Air Flight One were given a massive boost as well. Much is in anticipation regarding the 2013 set of NSW releases, and today we’re getting a first look at what’s in store; the Nike Barkley Posite Max, Air Force Max, Blazer Mid, Vandal High, and Lunar Force 1 Low are the included pieces of this year’s Nike Sportswear 2013 All-Star Collection, with the tie-in to Houston’s NASA Space Center offering up another reason to go beyond the Earth’s atmosphere once again.
Nike continues the story that began with last year’s ‘Big Bang’ by notifying us of a transmission that has been received at Area 72 – a top secret facility located in the desert in Houston and inspired by Nike’s year of birth – and what is revealed is indeed the Nike Sportwear All-Star Collection designed with galaxy themes, glow-in-the-dark highlights, and reflective panels for a truly magnificent feel. Raygun, the iconic Nike Basketball character that debuted a decade ago, returns as the lead in this Pack, with its logo present on the tongue of each shoe. Continue reading for a first look at this amazing set and stay tuned for a release of the 2013 All-Star Pack by Nike Sportswear beginning this February 14th.

The Nike Air Force Max served plenty of purposes for the Barkley line, setting a nice foundation for future Barkley models like the CB ’94 and Godzillas. The Air Force Max certainly plays a role in the upcoming Foamposite-meets-Barkley model, with the vented holes and aggressive outrigger serving as the genesis of these trademarks of the Barkley line. These early-90′s kicks were incredibly popular during their first run and was met with some excitement during the several re-issues that followed, and with yet another release confirmed for January 5th, these are bound to rekindle some of that early Sir Charles fire en route to a release of the aforementioned Barkley Posite shoe. Sneaker Lounge will stock these come the 5th, so check out the new images below.

With all the Air Force 1 variations on feet and in stores these days, let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Force series it spawned is every bit as connected as something like a Lunar Force 1. A spiritual successor to the AF1 just like the Air Force 180 it succeeded in the early ’90s, the Nike Air Force Max returns for 2013 in the subdued OG colorway that puts it in line with a trend toward simple elegance that’s been in effect for a few years. Another long-lost Charles Barkley go-to look resurfaces at select Nike Sportswear retailers as part of the spring 2013 catalog, and they’ve shown up a bit earlier than expected at Rock City Kicks.

Despite the appeal of LeBrons, KDs, and even Air Pennys, mo’ Barkley is what Nike Basketball fans continue to demand. We’ve already confirmed the re-release of the Air Max 2 Strong (not an official Barkley sig, but he’s worn it before), but hitting stores once again is the Nike Air Force Max, which has re-released quite a number of times over the last decade. The Air Force Max has indeed been confirmed for a Spring 2013 release at $140 (twenty years after its original release) in the OG Black/Grey/White as well as a number of newer colorways that should give this forgotten model some more depth, so let us know if you have any of the previous Retros still waiting to be rocked or if you’re looking to replenish your stash!
