Nike Air Griffey Max 1 – Navy – Volt – White

It looks like a stray colorway of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 is quietly arriving at retailers at the moment. This most famous model from the Nike Griffey line hasn’t been too present at retail over the past year or so, with periphery models and spinoffs instead taking up shelf space. The sneaker returns in a combination of navy, volt, and white, which gives it a decent enough “Mariners” vibe despite the inclusion of volt for the accents, but perhaps a crossover to the Mariners’ neighboring pro sports team in the Seahawks would be a nice fit. See more on this Nike Air Griffey Max 1 colorway below and stay tuned as this model should start to turn up a little more often over the coming months, and we’ll keep you updated on more release info on this particular colorway.

The OG Griffey model has been in the backseat for a minute now, with designs like the Nomo and the Nike Air Max Griffey Fury enjoying their time in the spotlight as far as diamond ready sneaks. As of now it’s bursting back on the scene, showing up in what some would be quick to call a ‘South Beach’ style palette that Nike has instead dubbed the ‘Home Run Derby’ edition. The blue and pink accents tag team the sneaker, injecting quite a bit of color into the black and white base. Click through with us for the full view of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Home Run Derby’ and let us know if you’re picking up any pairs from the group of retro baseball models. If so, Nikestore has you covered right now.

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 GS – Grey – Aqua – Pink

April 30th, 2012 by | 17 comments

nike air griffey max 1 gs south beach 4 Nike Air Griffey Max 1 GS Grey Aqua Pink

The South Beach/Miami Vice vibe has become so increasingly popular over the last two years that anything that utilizes that energetic Retro-inspired punchy theme is guaranteed to get some attention. The Air Griffey Max 1 comes back with a vengeance using the ‘South Beach’ colorway without shame, but instead of going “over the top”, it uses it in moderation, pairing it with a muted Grey/White upper. You can find the hot pink on the Max Air unit as well as on the contrast stitching on the Swoosh as well as the on the strap, with the aqua tones being used in other areas for quite an easy-going combination. Besides the colorway, it’s good to see the Air Griffey Max 1 (undoubtedly the most popular Griffey Retro) return to us, hopefully this is a sign of more releases (in adult sizes, we hope) in the future. More shots below, so take a look and we’ll keep you updated on release information. Photos: marqueesole

nike air griffey max 1 1996 all star pe 4 Nike Air Griffey Max 1 1996 MLB All Star PE

Nevermind the groundhog – Opening Day of Major League Baseball marks the start of the Spring season, so to coincide with today’s wide launch of the 2012 season is a look back at one of the rarest and undiscovered Player Exclusives we’ve ever seen. Check out this sick Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Player Exclusive made for Ken Griffey Jr. for the 1996 MLB All-Star Game; at just 26 years of age, Griffey was one of the most (if not the most) feared hitter in the game, earning a multitude of awards and consideration an a yearly basis while making the All-Star Game his summer time-share – he was pretty much guaranteed a spot. This PE, brought to us by Nike sample monger youbetgrish, features the Air Griffey Max 1 in a unique glossy patent leather-like finish – remember it was the Air Jordan XI of that same year that introduced the patent leather to the athletic shoe. Check out the extra angles of this baseball treat and let us know if you want Nike to whip up some more Air Griffey Max 1 colorways! Photos via sole-u

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Freshwater’ – Release Reminder

August 5th, 2011 by | 24 comments

nike air griffey max 1 freshwater reminder Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Freshwater Release Reminder

Many Nike Retro releases garner as much excitement as new releases do, and even with a plethora of great sneakers dropping tomorrow, the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 in the OG ‘Freshwater’ colorway will be regarded, by some, to be one of the best Retro releases of the year. Ken Griffey Jr.’s star legacy has been overshadowed by a number of controversial MLB stories concerning PEDs, lockouts, monster contracts, and so forth, so allowing for the Nike Griffey comeback was one of the best decisions by Nike. These will certainly be a hot commodity for the remainder of the summer and into the school year, as will this sick Vandal-A matching t-shirt, inspired by the Da Vinci Diagram. Be on the lookout tonight at midnight on NikeStore and tomorrow as they will officially hit stores (although they have been spotted at many retailers earlier). We’ve got more images of the shoe after the jump, as well as some looks at the Vandal-A t-shirt in two colors, so check them out and if you can’t wait, get a pair of the Griffeys right now from sneakerpost on Bay.
