Sneaker News has profiled a number of ‘City Pack’ designs from Nike Sportswear’s all new Engineered Mesh capsule.  Should we take this second design with Tokyo tongue tags to indicate that the Honolulu, London and Tianjin will also get their own Nike Air Max 95 EMs?  If so, expect them to come off differently than their Air Max 90 EM counterparts; the Tokyo edition here is a clean yet sporty grey and red plus white as compared to the higher-contrast Oregon Ducks-leaning 90.  Click through for a closer look and be sure to check back with us for release info.

Nike’s Air Max Reinvented

We’ve written thousands of words about the Nike Air Max running series here on Sneaker News.  Not even the most articulate sequences can fully convey the utter perfection that happens when groundbreaking technology performs great, looks even better and catches on at the exact right time.  That feeling you get when admiring one of Tinker Hatfield’s early gamechangers, Sergio Lozano’s iconic 95 or Christian Tresser’s spacey 97 — it’s the kind of magic Beaverton relives with the introduction of the Hyperfuse-equipped Nike Air Max+ 2013 and the Sportswear division’s Engineered Mesh, and they’ve channeled a bit into a dope new animated video you can see in full after the jump.

Nike Air Max 95 EM – Cool Grey – Volt – Black

First World Sneakerhead Problem: “I already own the OG Air Max 95 Neons“. Yes, news of the re-issue of the Neon 95 was reason to celebrate, but for the many Air Max nuts out there, the OGs may already own a slot in your closet space. In comes the new ‘EM’ build of the Air Max 95, colored up in Cool Grey/Volt-Black; Engineered Mesh takes over the upper of the Air Max 95, using the targeted ventilations on the upper to complete a design while minimizing weight where unnecessary and allowing these nearly two-decade old designs to be used for running. These are scheduled for a January release at overseas retailers, so check out the detailed gallery and let us know if you’d consider copping this EM model to complement the OGs that may already be in your sneaker closet.

Nike Air Max 95 EM – Cool Grey – Hyper Red – Sail

Engineered Mesh is an innovative material intended for Nike’s high-performance footwear products, but NSW’s getting in the mix with the release of classic Air Max models done in ‘EM’ style. This Air Max 95 features a full Engineered Mesh upper with the ‘ribs’ embossed outwards to maintain the ’95 anatomy, so it’s clear that Nike’s is being cautious with these re-designs in an effort to keep things true to the original. These were first spotted in a Nike Sportswear Air Max 2013 Preview from a couple of week ago, so expect these to hit during the first quarter of 2013; we’ve got new images below so take a look and snag this women’s wear-test sample from iluvmusic414 on eBay.

nike winter 2013 lookbook preview Nike Winter 2013 Lookbook + Preview

A sneakerhead’s 2012 has been an incredible ride full of probably more heat than any year ever thanks to hugely varied range of new and established styles, and Nike looks to keep the momentum going across the spectrum with some impressive running styles both new and old for the first quarter of next year.  Dubbed with the ‘Winter’ seasonal distinction we see interchangeably with the ‘Spring’ moniker, the Swoosh has readied so much good stuff you’re cheating yourself if you don’t take a moment to examine the whole display.

You’ve got the Nike Air Max+ 2013 flagship joined by the Flyknit One+ on the performance side of things, twists to the classics in the form of the first VNTG Air Max 90s and Engineered Mesh Air Max 95s, and somewhere in between is the indomitable Free Run+ 2, arguably the single best all-around (beautiful, comfortable, versatile, accessible, etc.) Nike Frees ever released.  There are too many more styles to mention already lined up for Q1, so click through the next few pages to see what’s in store and stick with Sneaker News for release info for your chosen favorites.

Prepare for Engineered Mesh to be an ongoing trend within the Air Max classics genre, because on top of the OG and new colorways of EM-built Air Maxes, there’s a ‘pack’ featuring the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, and Air Max 97 coming our way. All four colorways feature a orange-to-yellow gradient effect on the Engineered Mesh upper to achieve the effect of a sunset, with black nubuck mudguards amounting to the contrast on the upper. Expect these to arrive during the Summer 2013 season, so check out all four after the jump and let us know what you think about the use of this contemporary Engineered Mesh on older models.

While Nike Running has introduced a fresh new spin on footwear with the new FlyKnit releases, the Retro models won’t get a bit of rest as Spring 2013 will reintroduce the Nike Running heritage in a refreshed ‘Engineered Mesh’ construction. We’ve seen EM on the Air Max 1, 90, and 97, so here’s a first look at the Air Max 95 of that family tree; we can certainly expect the OG ‘Neon’ colorway to arrive in Spring 2013, with the Engineered Mesh comprising the upper ‘ribs’ of the 95 build. A full viewing of the Air Max 95 EM is just below, so take a look and let us know if you think this contemporary mesh is a right fit for the older designs of the 80′s/90′s. Photo: TSG
