Nike Air Max 97 “Italy”

nike air max 97 italy 1 Nike Air Max 97 Italy

Italy is responsible for arguably the most stunning pair of Nike Air Max 97s ever released, a luxurious leather build limited to just under 1700 pairs.  This latest AM97 release is constructed in a somewhat more familiar form mixing patent leather and mesh, but its tri-striped tongue and heel loops pull the black/white design toward the Mediterranean boot-shaped country with equal parts red, white and green.  These aren’t individually numbered but figure to still be a tough cop for US sneakerheads as a Foot Locker Europe exclusive, so have a closer look below and let us know if you’re able to import a pair.

Prepare for Engineered Mesh to be an ongoing trend within the Air Max classics genre, because on top of the OG and new colorways of EM-built Air Maxes, there’s a ‘pack’ featuring the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, and Air Max 97 coming our way. All four colorways feature a orange-to-yellow gradient effect on the Engineered Mesh upper to achieve the effect of a sunset, with black nubuck mudguards amounting to the contrast on the upper. Expect these to arrive during the Summer 2013 season, so check out all four after the jump and let us know what you think about the use of this contemporary Engineered Mesh on older models.

Classics Revisited: Nike “Kashima Antlers” Pack (2006)

nike kashima antlers pack 2006 Classics Revisited: Nike Kashima Antlers Pack (2006)

NIKE PACK WEEK

Finishing off this week of bundles of Nike footwear here in Classics Revisited tied together by a distinct theme is the trio of Air Max releases from 2006 called the ‘Kashima Antlers’ Pack. This unique set was a tribute to the Kashima Antlers professional football club in Japan – the most successful club in the history of the Japan League Division 1 since its inception in 1993, but the origin of the Antlers club dates back to 1947. The Nike ‘Kashima Antlers’ Pack featured three significant models; the Air Max 95 and the Air Max 97, both of which are widely popular in Japan, and the Air Max 360, which debuted in late January of 2006. Of the three colorways, only the Air Max 360 is designed with the Kashima Antlers kit colors in mind (White, Black, and Red), but all three compositions capture a singular theme that were widely popular when the Kashima Antlers Pack was launched globally in late February.

The Air Max 95 features the pristine Gold and Royal colorway, using the Beige color as an accent on the upper mesh (Beige is on the official Kashima Antlers club crest). The Air Max 360 featured the widely popular laser detailing on the upper with Kashima Antlers FC written in Japanese on the tongue. The most popular and coveted of the entire Pack is the Air Max 97, which boasted the much-beloved elephant print on the upper with a teal-colored Max Air unit. The ’97 also featured Kashima Antlers branding on the tongue as well as on the heel pull-tab. Included in this special edition release was a custom tissue paper that lined the box as well as an envelope containing mini postcards of the world’s most significant football clubs – Man U. and Boca Jr’s to name a couple. Check out a gallery of all three from the ‘Kashima Antlers’ Pack below, and let us know if you’ve got any of these in your Air Max collection!

Nike Air Max 97 CVS ‘Sport Red’ – Available

The idea of a high-tech runner being built from canvas probably doesn’t seem like the best one on paper, but with the Nike Air Max 97 being long-since removed from its context as a performance sneaker its definitely fair game at this point for a bit of material mashup. The result is actually surprisingly natural looking, no doubt due in part to the solidly blocked releases that make up the range like the ‘Sport Red’ shown here. Fortunately for our stateside readers, this sneaker has touched down on American soil as of now and can be had at fine retailers like Oneness. Hit them up to grab a pair after you check out the rest of the Nike Air Max 97 CVS ‘Sport Red’ after the jump.

Nike Air Max 97 CVS ‘Sport Red’

1997 was a big year for ‘wavy’ sneakers, both in the Max B sense of the word and literally, as applied to some of Nike’s biggest designs that year. Memorable releases like the Air Bakin, Air Foamposite One and Air Penny III all had extensive curvature defining their by now legendary look, and that year’s flagship runner was one of the most aerodynamic of them all. The Nike Air Max 97 CVS comes to market at a time when the aforementioned Foams and the whole Air Penny lineup are hotter than ever, and like the best of those new releases, these Sport Red CVS97s blend today’s blocking tendencies with yesterday’s familiar lines. Click through to see details like the Metallic Silver Max Air cushion and grab yours from a Nike Sportswear dealer like Titolo.

Nike Air Max 97 CVS – Black

It’s not quite on the level of, say, creating an Air Foamposite One from denim, but applying canvas to the Air Max 97′s swooping lines isn’t exactly the most obvious transition for this fifteen year veteran. Then again, we have seen its distinctive full-length Max Air cushion successfully paired with the Jordan CMFT series, so perhaps taking the AM97 in a more casual route is indeed the most logical next step. Enter the Nike Air Max 97 CVS, a new debut for the summer season that’s just about to hit retailers in tonal styles like this black pair pictured above. Expect red, blue and others following the same pattern and stick with Sneaker News for word on their availability from NSW retailers like Titolo.
