The House of Hoops is getting back into the thick of running basketball exclusives, like this Obsidian/Team Orange ‘Auburn’ colorway of the Air Max Barkley that was previewed early last week. This ‘VT’ed out Air Max2 ‘CB ’94 is all about hole ventilations, starting with the trademark dimples on the upper and completed with the microperforated material that surrounds the entire shoe. Add in the form-fitting inner bootie, and you have a sneaker that visually dates back nearly two decades, but would bang with the youngsters with ease (some NBA players have been rocking the Air Max Barkley lately anyway). You can always count on the House of Hoops to release some unprecedented high-energy colorways of Nike Basketball Retros or new designs, like the earlier ‘Michigan’ colorway of the Air Max Tempo or the Highlighter Pack quartet. This latest releases uses the re-vamped Air Max2 CB ’94 simply dubbed the Air Max Barkley in an Obsidian/Team Orange-White colorway, continuing a line of eye-catching colorways like the ‘Action Red‘ and the ‘USA’-inspired pair. You can find these at House of Hoops soon if they haven’t dropped already, but check out these new images courtesy of sneakermanid and cop one of the available pairs on eBay.

Charles Barkley spent a few seasons in Houston with Hakeem the Dream and Clyde the Glide chasing after that elusive championship ring. It was during their post back-to-back title phase of the mid/late ’90s that featured uniforms some would call ‘cartoonish’, others ‘absurd’. H-Town’s unis have since evolved into one of the league’s cleanest designs with a palette that reflects this Nike Air Max Barkley quite nicely. This molded remix can also be seen as something like Barkley’s Air Jordan IV ‘Cavs’, a reminder that Michael Jordan’s Bulls topped Barkley’s Suns in the season immediately preceding the Air Max2 CB ’94 debuted. No matter the backstory, you can’t go wrong with a red, black and white Air Max-cushioned mid-’90s basketballer, and this one popped up a short while back with pairs still available at Premier.

There was more wheelin’ and dealin’ in the NBA over the course of two nights as we got a look at some great match-ups (Bulls vs. Celtics) while enjoying more of the Linsanity that has taken over Madison Square Garden. Knicks phenom Jeremy Lin showed a pass-first dimension of his game, tallying 13 assists while bringing Lob City to the East Coast while wearing the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Low. The Air Jordan X ‘Old Royal’ continues to be a popular in-game choice as we see Jared Jeffries, Nate Robinson, and Monta Ellis ball in the recent release. The Nike Zoom Kobe VI iD still has presence as Ben Gordon and Demar DeRozan wore their respective pairs, and Ray Allen rocked Home and Away PEs of the Air Jordan 2011 A-Flight during back-to-back games. We’ve been seeing previews of this model off and on since this past May, but those Sneaker News readers with memories sharp enough to remember that initial preview will also recall that they’ve always been slated for a spring 2012 debut. So though it feels like an eternity since we first laid eyes upon the Nike Air Max Barkley, it’s actually arriving about a week earlier than we could have expected. This first colorway seems appropriate with its mostly white build adding Old Royal and Gym Red hits in honor of Sir Charles’ early years with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team with whom Chuck built his rebellious public persona and earned the nickname ‘The Round Mound of Rebound’. The Air Max Barkley, like Charles in his earlier days, is decidedly sleeker than the Air Max2 CB ’94 silo upon which it was based, and you’ll find them at select Nike Sportswear retailers like Premier.

This past May, Sneaker News showed you the all-new Nike Barkley ‘hybrid’ shoe simply titled the ‘Air Max Barkley‘. It features the popular Air Max2 CB ’94 silhouette in a completely reconstructed upper, using a one-piece seamless Hyperfuse-like thin, ventilated material in favor of the leather, suede, and mesh used in the original version. These two new colorways are expected to drop during the Summer 2012 season; the first is a refreshing White-based colorway with blue and and teal green accents, while the second expected release is a bit of an opposite, opting for multiple grey tones for that harder ‘street’ appeal. Charles Barkley’s signature line with Nike during the 90′s stands as one of the greatest anomalies in footwear history. Signature footwear lines are typically dominated by slashing guards and high flyers, not by loud-mouth low-post enforcers. Big-men don’t make great pitch-men, but Barkley, although categorized as a power forward, had the height of a shooting guard and the charisma of a movie star. Even in his post-NBA career, Barkley continues to make headlines with his wise-cracking one-liners, which is why the Nike Barkley line is still popular today. One of the most popular Barkley shoes ever is the Nike Air Max2 CB ’94, and Sneaker News reported last month of a remastered version of the original simply titled the ‘Air Max Barkley‘. It’s the same Air Max2 CB ’94, but with a unique one-piece construction with Fuse-like material. It should make for a lighter, more breathable performance shoe, and this tonal Action Red colorway should be a big hit when it drops in 2012.
